I just picked up a non-working Ms Pacman. Looking it over it's in decent shape but now I'm wondering if it was originally a Ms Pacman. The manual and everything I read shows the 1/2 player start buttons on one of the control panels. On this cocktail it's above the coin door, the control panels just have the joystick.

Inside it appears that the main board was modified, I'm guessing from a Pacman to a Ms Pacman, complete with daughter cards and stringy wires to chips.

One curious thing is that there is writing on the wood of the coin box that says "Donkey", so that got me thinking it might be a donkey kong cabinet. Looking at pictures of those cabinets that doesn't seem to be the case.

So the question is has anyone heard of Ms Pacman cabinets that don't have player start buttons on the control panel?

As far as I know, all Ms. Pac-man boards are actually just Pac-man boards with different ROMs and an extra daughter card with a ribbon cable. Or do you mean it looks hacked up, like with mod wires soldered everywhere?

More info

I don't think pics of the cabinet will help, it's pretty nondescript. Here's the 1/2 player button that someone might recognize. The speaker grill and fan exhaust are "drilled holes", there's no external grill. The cabinet was covered with a woodgrain vinyl laminate (I say "was" since I've stripped this and ordered replacement).

The top (which I'm assuming is the original) is very close to a Pacman/Ms Pacman layout, but not 100%.

Just by your brief descriptions, no, it is not an original Ms. Pacman cab. But again, the only way for us to verify for sure would be for you to post pics of the cab. Non-descript or not, you will have a answer in no time with pics....

Pac

I will make it easy. If it does not look like this:

It is not a Ms. Pac cab.

Picture of the cabinet

this is a cocktail, and I'm pretty sure it's not a Pacman cabinet. First there are the 1/2 player start buttons (see earlier post for picture) that are not Pacman in origin. Also the wood frame for the coin box has the word "Donkey" written on it.

It does have what appears to be a midway coin door, but the back of the coin door has blue paint on it, so perhaps this too was pulled from another game.

I have included a picture of the cabinet. Let me know what you think.

top is non-descript

The top was Plexiglas and a Ms Pacman control panel. I purchased new glass and a Pacman underlay. The glass is a very, very close fit.

Yes, the 1/2 player buttons appear custom as well, the backings were "ground-down" so the button can reach the switch contacts. The grills for speaker & fan are not Pacman.

Any ideas?

Ms Pacman restoration complete

The restoration of my pseudo-Ms Pacman is complete. You can see a pic in my block (http://mygaragearcade.blogspot.com/2009/11/ms-pacman-complete.html).

I'm pretty certain the original game was not a Pacman or Ms Pacman, but since that is the parts I had I restored it as such. That is also the game my daughter wanted (which was the purpose of getting the game and restoring it).

If anyone has some ideas as to what the original game was I'd like to hear them.

Remember, to an operator any cabinet can be used for any game. . . . .cabs dont make money the games inside do. . . .
