I recently picked up a Ms. Pacman without a boardset in it. I scored a set from a very reliable member here and put in in the machine after it arrived. After some tinkering with the monitor, I got the machine up and running. I noticed that at that point the flyback was whining and would need to be replaced. Played a few games over the past few weeks and though the flyback continued to whine, the game played fine. Yesterday I turned the machine on and left it on for about an hour or so. When I returned, there was no display on the machine and the game is no longer running. I can still here the flyback whining but can't get anything to show up on the monitor and the game wont even play blind at this point. My question is this. Can all of these problems be due to the flyback needing to be replaced? Is something else the problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you still hear monitor activity (i.e. the whining noise) check voltages on the game PCB. There are several capacitors that you can go across with a multimeter to check for +5V. You can also check across the upper left and lower right pins of most of the smaller (14 pin) ICs. Do you hear any game sounds if you try to coin up or start a game?

Definitely go over the fuse block. Clean up the "fingers" on the holders and the fuses themselves. Check the fuses with a multimeter or just replace them.

Ms Pac Question

Got her back up and running gang! Changed out the fuse block and inserted new fuses and she fired right up! Still need to change the flyback eventually but at least I can play her for a while. Thanks to everyone for the help!

Not a problem. I'm just the lucky guy who got here first. I was pretty sure somebody else would jump in while I was typing my reply. I've had 2 DKs and my Ms. Pac (and Pac) has been with me for nearly 10 years. I also used to repair Pac/Ms. Pac boards. However, there are a lot of people here with a lot of experience. Most of the time, you can get an answer to just about any arcade question.
