I just bought an original Ms. Pacman machine the other day. It was stored in a guys garage and was very cold and the right side of the monitor was curved up. I bought it anyway and sure enough went I brought it home, it went back to the way it should look. But that isn't my problem.

It's worked fine for about a week, this morning I turned it on and now it's running through these four jumbled screens. It just keeps repeating these screens over and over.

I Need help, any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Torwards the bottom left of the board you will see a row of 6 2114 rams. Make sure they are seated well then retest. If the problem persists you can try pulling the rams and reseating them. Most of the time its just a connection issue but you may indeed have a bad ram.

Well I found the 6 2214 cards ... took them out, and then put them back in. Fired it up and still had the same screen. Though the first card looked rather oxidized and old, the rest looked perfect. Do you know if the message meant which card was bad? Because it did say "Bad C Ram 1".

Anyway, I'm probably going to try to replace that one on Monday, if that doesn't work, there is a place about an hour or so away that fixes arcade machines. I'll see what they can do.

Thank you for your help, if you have any other ideas or hints, let me know.

One area on Ms. Pac cabs that is notorious for problems is the fuse block on the bottom of the cab. You can get a suitable replacement at Radio Shack, just remove the original and replace it with a new one. I had the same "garbage screen" on my Pac Man cab, and simply replacing the fuse block fixed it.

V Ram-0 4K
V Ram-1 4N
C Ram-0 4L
C Ram-1 4P
W Ram-0 4M
W Ram-1 4R

Remove 4P and swap it with another one. If the error follows you know the ram is bad.

That info was really helpful ... thank you so much.

I switched the ram cards and sure enough, it showed a different screen. Then just for good measure, I switched them again ... again I got another error screen. So lastly I put all the ram cards back in the original lineup and it showed my original error screen. So I'm 99% sure that if I replace the 2114 ram chip then everything should be back to normal. Hopefully that's right and I can go back to playing my Ms. Pac machine again. I'm going to go buy a new one tomorrow.

Also, I checked the power in all the fuses in the bottom of the cabinet, they were all fine and good to go.

Well I went to a very old electronics store who had one 2114 memory chip and I went home ... popped it in and ... it works great.

I'm so happy right now, thanks for all your help riptor ... I couldn't have done it without you ...

Can't wait for my next project now
