I purchased a cabinet arcade Ms Pacman, it worked for a few days and now has a screen that says bad rom 0, can someone advise. I am new to the forum and do not have a clue as to what to try first but I did take the control panel off. Was going to clean but not sure how. Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

Its rom 6E as far as I know. No you dont need a new board, probably need the rom reseated or replaced. Can you post a pic so we can see what type rom you have on there? If its a solid black chip without a window then the legs are probably rotted off.

Excuse my ignorance here, is the rom 6E on the control board where 6 and E intersect?

That would be correct. Be careful that you don't damage it trying to take it out. I mangled one last night working on a board whe I should have been sleeping. AN IC puller is very helpful.

OK I am starting to get the picture! Should I try taking it out and the reinserting? Is there something I should clean it with? HELP!!!!!

If you have a chip puller you can easily pull the chip and reseat it. If you don't, you can remove it, but you have to be extremely careful. If you pull out one end too much, you will bend or break the pins on the other end. You have to work each end out a little at a time. If Riptor is right and you have the black masked rom and the pins are rotten, when you pull it out the legs will break off. You will then have to pull each leg out of the socket and order a new chip. It's really not hard and the chips are cheap. Good luck!

Also, make sure it goes back in the same way it came out. Make sure you don't turn it around.

OK its out and no broken pins should I clean before reinstalling and with what? maybe steel wool?

Thanks

Does it look dirty? If the pins are all black I just use 220 grit sand paper and buff them up a little. If they are clean, just stick it back in and turn it on.

Well unfortunatly same result (Bad Rom 0) But Thanks I learned alot. So where do I order a new chip and is it for sure the E6?

Again, if you have masked roms(all black with no window) I would replace them all. Its also a good chance you could have a bad socket too.

Yes, It is all black. One leg seemed a little wobbly so I am suspecting that may be the problem. Can you tell me where I would get the replacement you are talking about.

I have a complete set of Roms that I bought from Bob Roberts that I didn't need. If you want them I'll sell them to you for $45.00 shipped. Otherwise, I believe Riptor sells them and you can get them from bob roberts, too.
