I work on so many pac boards that I just built a dedicated test station just for the pacs. With a jamma adapter you can run into odd power problems that might not show up until you hook it up to a real cab.
If you do any amount of board work its worth the time to go ahead and make a test station. I built an iso into my jamma rig so I can also test monitors with it.
Yeah, I have all the parts here... just lazy. I have about a dozen different ISO transformers from various cabinets... and I THINK I even have a Pac harness (I haven't bothered checking everything out on it). Granted, I don't do much board work, but for my games that are acting up... a test rig would be soooo much easier. And since it only takes about an hour and $5 or so to build a JAMMA --> X harness, it'll probably just go that route. The only exception I can think of (for games I have/tinker with) would be Williams... took me a whole weekend to build that thing... ugggg.
Anywho, for the topic (if the thread is still viable?). I think with the problems he had... he pretty much learned everything he'll need to know about basic trouble shooting. lol Bent legs, monitor adjustments, power issues, being careful while soldering (a little flux REALLY helps out when you're working in tight spots), etc etc... think he pretty much got a good crash course, with good results.
