Well after the frustration of learning new monitors are no longer available. I took the advice from fellow members and found a recap kit. I then was disappointed about the kit not including all the caps I hoped for. But thankfully the kit cured all my problems but the burn in. Heres a before and after. I am posting it to see if anyone sees anything else that may need to be adjusted. But it may not be a good time to ask, as the board has problems but a fully working one is on its way. Heres the shots. I promise not to post anymore threads about the monitor now...I know your all sick of me :D

Nice!

I recap everything on any board now that has caps for all my machines.

You could always get an LED/LCD for it, if the burn drives you crazy enough.

Don't forget a high score save kit for it too! : )

Yep, once I get the new board I will recap that too. I work on older audio gear, trust me caps don't last for ever and when they go bad they take out some expensive parts. My board has way to many rusty/corroded chips to attempt to repair it.

I was thinking of going lcd, but that takes away from the originality of ms pac. Then the few I found cost more then the few new CRT's that I've managed to find.

Do you guys think a 19" tube from a 1989 RCA colortrak would fit a K4900? Theres one at a local thrift for 15$

There are lots of different models of RCA colortrak. Some of which used delta gun tubes. You'll have to check what kind of tube it has.

Good job on the cap kit. Not every cap will be replaced in a typical kit - the ones that are not replaced are ones that are not critical to the operation of the monitor. That and the filter cap. The filter cap alone is several dollars, and is not included because of the cost of the part, and because it's not as common a failure.

See if you can't get a peek through the back vents on that TV at the thrift store. Look for the tube number -- should be something that starts with 'A48'

Get that number and report back to us, we'll tell you if the tube is a swap candidate.

Congrats!

It feels good to take something broken and make it work again. :)

Caps are a big problem in many different places. I have an old 10M rig from Radio Shack that had some transmission audio issues. The mic element was bad but it still sounded like crap after replacing it. Shotgunning the caps cured that and made the receive audio sound much better too.

Oh it does, I think this is why I love old stereo gear and radios. Love bringing things back from the dead, the only thing I hate is having to order and wait for parts...I wish we still had electronic stores.

okay I found a 19" panasonic tv from 1989 on the side of the radio today. The tube is a Matsushila A48JJY81X, is this one compatable? or should I take it back to the side of the road?

Yep, that tube will work! You'll need to swap the yoke, however. But it IS a donor :)

SWEET...I have the strangest luck lol So how hard is it to do the swamp? Is is just switch the parts over or does the yoke need to be adjusted some how? Never really went to far into tv/crt repair.

Well I give up, I tired. I couldn't use the polrity switches from the tv as they were built into the yoke. I then went to remove them and the yoke from the monitor and they were cooked on the neck and feel apart when remove. I managed to get them on the tv tube, I then speant about 3 hours adjusting the yoke, switches, pots everything and just can't get the picture to line up and focused. I do get a 100% better photo on the tv tube but just can't get it perfect. I want a new monitor. Maybe I might work on it later on, heres some photos.

Sloved my own problem, the tube is to short. The tv tube uses the yoke with the purity rings attached, where as the monitor has them seperate. Once you put the yoke onto the tv from the monitor there isn't enough room left on the neck to align the purity rings up in the right location. So when you adjust the pulirty rings it does nothing to the picture. So if I could find out a way to remove the clam from the yoke of the monitor and then attach the rings in its place and the clamp after the rings I would be able to use the monitor....so now its find another tv or buy another monitor
