Hello I am new to the site and the hobby. I got my first non working Ms. PacMan game a couple of weeks ago. I got it home and drilled out the lock to make sure everything was there and found a reset switch on the board. I pushed it and the game started working. The game plays but it has some issues. As you can see from the pictures the score, lives, and the fruit is all garbled or corrupted.

I have already pulled all the roms, socketed chips and CPU. I cleaned them and reseated them. I have also pulled the CPU chip from the daughter board and put it on the main board. I have also removed the ram chips and put them in a different socket to see if the problem would move elsewhere. I still have the same issue. Any ideas on how to fix? Thanks for the help.

I cannot see the videos you said you posted. is there another link?

Ok so the very top and bottom are messed up? I think (could be wrong) this is probably the vram addresser board it's one of the two small sub boards (not the one near the CPU)

Try removing it and cleaning it and the socket if that does not work try replacing with a spare if you have one.

Thanks for the info. I have cleaned the pins and the socket with deoxit already. I will look for another VRam address board.

Arcadeshop sells a nice replacement for $18
http://www.arcadeshop.com/s/1/c_vram.htm

I have not used it yet but I ha e used there sync bus replacements they work nice.

That said I'd try to see if someone would lend you one to test first.
I'd be willing to test your board if you want to send it to me though honestly shipping back and forth is probably not worth the cost

I've used both these new custom chip replacements (284, 285) from arcadeshop and I love them!

Oh nice! Congrats! If you don't want the old vram addresser please don't throw it out, you can thank me by donating it to me :) I can fix it and reuse.
I'll gladly pay shipping.

I'm not sure if I want to get rid of the board. I think I would like to keep it with the board as a set to keep it original. Is there a way I can figure out what is wrong with it?

Can you desolder chip without destroying them? And do you have any test equipment?

The easiest way to fix this without test equipment is to simply shotgun replace all 9 or 10 chips but to do that you need to be able to desolder well (you'll need a vacuum desoldering gun as well as practice) and then just solder in the new chips or use sockets, either way though you'll need a few hundred dollars in solder/desolder equipment
