Greetings All,

I am restoring a Ms Pacman control panel that I came across and I need to know what black I should use for the base coat before applying the overlay graphic?

So in short, anyone know the black I should be using for the control panel?

Thank you.

I think my main question is:

Should the black be...

1. Glossy
2. Semi Gloss
3. Satin

Thank You.

I know a lot of people take them and have them powdercoated black. Gives it sort of a satin finish. I usually paint mine with Rustoleum's black appliance epoxy. More of a gloss look, but once dry it is SUPER durable......find one of my restorations and see how they turned out for yourself.

Ms. Pac was one of the first control panels I restored bitd. I used was a Glossy Black Krylon spray paint...many coats. Turned out very nice.

Would definitely powder coat the next one I restore though.

I actually painted my pacman control, after sanding and sanding the CP. I also used a gloss black and Its just glossy and sticky. The decal will stick to the surface of the paint. When that paint gets hot it will start to warm and loosen, then your decal will loosen causing a warp over time. After all that drama, I got it powder coated satin. the gloss is too glossy and a haven for finger prints !!! How many times do you want to restore this control panel? My suggestion is get it powder coated.

I love the appliance epoxy. If you follow directions for recoating times and let it dry properly (I wait at least a week after painting) it is super durable and looks great. Powdercoating is the shit but for those of us on a budget this stuff is great.
