i just picked it up today for the small fee of $200.00 and shes a beauty!!!! Sh didnt work cause the pawn store didnt know the coin door had to be closed to make it work ANYWAYS after a little mesing around with it the round sucion cup thing thats on the back of the monitor was off. After getting shocked 5 times i got it back on it worked. now all thats wrong is there is a faint up and down light line that goes from left to right....what could that be? the monitor or the board? it was originally a pacman and they added a ribbon cable to the original board with a little ms. pacman so dont know if that has anything to do with it but wondered. LMK what you guys think! Thanks for all the help with my games over the last few months!

Careful with that... those shocks hurt, don't they? Be sure the little metal tabs under the suction cup are actually clipped into the hole in the picture tube so it doesn't fall off. And discharge the monitor first before you disconnect that again. That's 19kv.

Sounds like the classic Pac hum bar. Clean and reseat the edge connector at the board, and check for burnt marks on the edge fingers. If the game has a filter board between the harness connector and the game board, remove it. Also, carefully check the fuse holders in the game. Both items can cause this problem. I'm not as familiar with the cocktail table version, but the fuse holders in the uprights were crap and broke easily. This is such a common problem that Bob Roberts has a Pac repair kit that includes new fuse holders and fuses, and a new harness connector.

Here's a pic of what the filter board should look like. Credit to KLOV member jimk's old for sale thread.

About the size of an index card, goes between the harness connector and the game board. Has a bunch of inductors and capacitors on it. It's there to reduce RFI, but really just serves to add more bad connections to the harness. Most of them got thrown away in the 80's, but you still find them now and again.

Are the colors all wrong, like psychadellic/tie dye looking? If so, then you probably powered the monitor up while the table top was flipped up, and as soon as you set it down, they went out of whack. Flip the table top back up and look at it then. (or vice versa). This is the earth's magnetic field affecting the picture tube. Let it sit for a half hour or so, and power it on with the lid closed. The monitor has a degauss circuit that fires every time the monitor is turned on from being cold. Failing that, you can use a hand held degaussing coil.
