Ms Pac that plays like a Pac

I'm in the middle of restoring my Ms Pac CT. It was bought this way, doing the same thing as now and upon inspection of the chips, one had two broken legs and I did not care for the speed ship, so I replaced all 6 (5E, 5F, 6E, 6F, 6H, 6J) and the ribbon cable.
My 5E & 5F are def Ms Pac chips & labeled that way...

That fixed a couple minor things but the attract screen looks EXACTLY like below and the mazes are Pac blue and do not change like Ms pac should.

Through the trouble shooting guides on line I found the screen shot below and it said the issue and fix where:

"Monsters are diced, chopped in quarters and re-assembled wrong.
Using Ms pacman 5E & 5F ROMs with Pacman software ROMs."

Has anyone seen this before? What software could this be referring to if I already replaced the 6 chips above?

I am confident in my work and have done PCB mounted chips, sockets, and loads of components before, that if a component needs to be replaced I can do it, I don't know which one though.

Thanks for the help!

sounds like row 6 roms are pac man not ms. pac, Were did you get the replacements?

OK, I'll check row 5 sockets...

I am just confused because WTF software is the diagnostic clue and pic above referencing?

Either the text diagnosis above is wrong, or the person that wrote it is not being detailed enough as to what software they are talking about. They make the solution sound so easy.

Are my daughter board ROMS jacked then?

Like mark said, row 6 roms are the same whether its pac or mspac. Row 5 (5E&5F) are different. To change a pac to mspac requires swapping 5E & 5F and installing the daughterboard in place of the Z80.
Post a picture of your daughterboard (the one with the ribbon cable). It could possibly be a two-bits board that is selectable between pac and mspac.

Here it is but she's original. This was before the ribbon cable, CAPs and chip replacement.

I did send it to you days ago and you confirmed it was not a Two Bits then too. : )

I have not replaced the board edge connector terminals yet...

Thats not surprising, I answer so many emails I cant remember them day to day.
You might have something going on with the character rom sockets.
If I remember right you bought the rom set and got mspac character roms right?

Right, I bought your 6 pack ROMS, with Ms Pac character ROM.

And actually, when you play, Ms Pac has a bow on her head for only horizontal moves, but no bow when moving vertical. I could have the directions flip flopped, BUT the bow appears one way and not the other.

I dunno if that's related to the character ROM and would also cause the above, just mentioning it...

Well, looks like I just took a step backwards!

I looked at row 5 chip sockets. Looked good and so on, check continuity through the legs of the chips to the back side of the board socket legs. Had it for all legs.

I then removed and cleaned all the legs on the four large daughter board chips and the Z80.

Plugged it back in and I have no characters whatsoever. I repeated the above, plugged it in and got the same, no characters.

Looked up in the manual and it said chip 3D, 74LS75.

So I guess now I need to replace that chip. I did not check solder joints at that chips legs, but I bet their fine, the chip is bad.

Also, can somone please tell me the size of the PCB edge connector terminals?

I had two different sizes and though one would fit but not the case.

I like to replace terminals then the other method and have the crimpers and removers to do it.

Mike, do you have the terminals on your site, you have the chip I need I see...

Roger that!

But do you sell or know the size of the terminals for the original connector?

I rather do terminals then that connector...

That connector is made by AMP. The pins for these are very hard to find. Molex is what everyone sells as replacments and they just went obsolete also.
