So I have a MS Pac that had a vhold issue. I touched up the solder on the vhold POT and did a cap kit while I had the monitor. Once I put it all back together it looked great. I played a few games. I noticed it was a bit bright so I adjusted the black levels and bam, got a red screen. I can barely see the play screen and characters through all of the red and lines. I pulled the monitor back out to make sure all of my solder points on the capacitors were good and in the correct position and they appear to be. Any ideas?

Try tapping on the glass face of the monitor.
I had a 4600 that was acting up, flashes of color rather than just a screen full.
When you would tap, the monitor would freak out.
(This may or may not do anything for you)

Anyway, I did hook up the tube to my rejuv and the leak detection lit up like a Christmas tree.
There was no saving mine.

try pulling the red transistor out from the neck board. that will confirm if you tube is shorted or not.

Thanks for the suggestions! I will find a diagram of the neck board and try to locate the red transistor so I can pull it. I think this is a good first step.

No need to diagram it.

The adjustment pot for your red drive is VR403.

Once you zero in on the red pot, start following circuit board traces until you get to the transistor in the circuit.

I removed the TR401 transistor from the red circuit. I get the same result. Here is another picture. Any ideas?

clean the screen pot and get the tube checked.

the screen pots are no longer made so be careful and use contact cleaner.

spray it on and wipe the pot back and forth several times.
let it dry wipe the pot back and forth again.

do this several times if needed.

check the solder pads on the pot as well re-flow them any way to be sure.

I've got one, and wouldn't mind helping out.

Thanks freckledpeas! Once the weather gets a bit better and I am a little less busy at work I would be happy to bring it up to you. The Sanyo you and I spoke about I want to do a little more troubleshooting on. I am suspecting that it may be a transistor on the neck board but I need to verify this before I have it rejuvenated. I need to get myself a rejuvenator and learn to use it so I don't have to bother others.

Thanks Jason (FreckledPeas) for the tube testing! I finally made it up to have the tube tested. Major leakage on the red gun. So that tube is dead. Also tested a tube from a k7000. Same result. So I have 2 dead tubes. However, I had a 19" CRT TV laying around (Magnavox but will have to look at the model number) and decided to tear it apart. It was a neck match for the K7000. I swapped the yoke and DAG and fired it up. Worked like a charm. Horizontal width is too big but have not yet tried adjusting it as it was getting pretty late when I finished. So my 1st tube swap was a success. It was a lot easier than I had thought it was going to be. Now I need to find a tube for the K4600. Thanks everyone for your help, especially Jason!
