Here's a Ms Pac Man up for sale, this one also could use some attention. Not much to say other than it's working and I seem to have lost the keys and manual I had with it. (I'll keep looking, have an idea who has them). Hence no current pictures of the inside yet. Any questions just send them my way and I'll try to get back in a reasonable amount of time. Its located in my garage for easy loading. Located in Jenison, MI.

I wondered what that could be. Never knew there was such a thing. Anyway I'll get pictures of the insides and the board. It is not a multi board but that's all I really know so far.

if its original that is a steal of a price! I have seen cabinets in that condition bring in closer to the $2000 US mark running original tubes and pcbs.

you are fortunate then to be living in California and have ms. pacs be the affordable thing in life. They do sell just like they are for the price mentioned. Its about market, demand and location. Sold one exactly like this, same cabinet wear, original board, tube, ect (no extra button on the panel ) and that was $1600 US Googling points to some retailers selling for closer to the $3000 US mark... so again maybe you are fortunate for the market place you are in. maybe you havent looked for one recently.

I managed to get the back open so I'm attaching those pictures.

Interesting, but not necessarily true. Here is an example of what appears to be a nice, original and working example on fb marketplace. Not some restored junk. This is an hour away from me and it has been listed numerous times since late last year...yet no buyer...even at a $1K. I am not affiliated in anyway with the buyer.

As I said before it comes down to location and marketplace. I know what I can and have sold them for. I know there are places in New York from a quick goggle search listing for $2999 the way it is, an additional $999 with new side art. If it moves it moves, if it don't, I am sure the seller is not motivated to sell or need the money for bills.

The ironic twist to it all - in my mind is... at a $500 obo price point, you are basically valuing an original real cabinet at the same price point as an Arcade 1up. We know nothing beats a real cabinet! Also the balancing act here of "My games have no value, its a hobby" when it comes to buying... but when it comes to selling, people ask "how to go about maximizing value" and those threads are entertained as well. Are we here for preservation, for education, for supporting others, or to scavenge for deals. At first impression the OP has been a member of KLOV for 4 years, but not real active. They could be basing things on 4 yr old pricing. If we are all beating "This is a community, we are here to help in this hobby" drum, then isn't educating about various price points and markets part of that?

Maybe with that in mind, the seller could stick with the original price point, but make it truly Or Best Offer. $500 is the starting point, and go up from there.
It HAS to be worth more than an Arcade 1up, wouldn't you agree?

If you aren't here to buy it why try to drive the price up? The point of KLOV was to sell to fellow collectors at fair prices ($500 seems fair to me) and not the prices elsewhere.

Something's fishy here. 2K for a Ms. Pac doesn't seem right.

People could drive to pick it up to take it to other market places. Its always a possiblity.

So, if my educating about prices is wrong, and we are in effect to keep things garage sale prices. Why do we as a group entertain group value, estate value threads and conversations? You can't have both sides of the coin on this one.

Again if it is truly about preservation and quality, how does one value this LESS than an Arcade 1up?

I for one don't. It's not even close!
And I'll bet you would have a hard time finding anyone on here that does.

I think $500 is a fair price for an authentic Ms. Pac Man. Especially with the OBO tag. The seller indicates his best guess/minimum accepted value and leaves it to the market to decide the real value at that time and place. There were somewhere around 120,000-170,000 of them made BTW, depending on who you ask. There are plenty cabinets out there.

However, Arcade-1up is junk. It's a toy and worth about $20, fully working and undamaged. Maybe $50 BRAND NEW. Maybe. It does have a place though. Not everyone can afford several hundred to several thousand for a real arcade game, working, and most people are not lucky enough to find one at bargain bin prices. Arcade1up let's them scratch their gaming itch, on a budget, and they can throw it away when the novelty wears off or the game (quickly) wears out.

And as for the preservation aspect...these things let casual people get a taste without diving into owning a fridge sized behemoth that requires upkeep and space. And when they tire of it and they throw it away, or burn it, or drive over it with their truck, a real machine is not lost forever. Or if they decide to mod it up with chrome and lights and $2000+ status stickers, or turn it into some 60-n-1 abomination, it's no great loss. Someone else who actually cares about the history and preservation of coin-op amusements can have the chance to that real one and preserve it.

Exactly. A lot of people like buying new things too. Opening boxes with a lot of Styrofoam and plastic and China stink. That experience is worth a couple hundred alone.

This looks like a solid Ms. Pac-man at a solid price. GLWTS!

I so see your point... again we all know Arcade 1ups are not quality or built to last... You spend $500-700 on them and in 2 years they are scrap. You spend the same amount on a solid coin op cabinet, and more often than not the monetary value will go up, or at the very least be the exact same. ( The win/profist is your enjoyment time)

When things get priced too low esp from the preservation aspect it attracts a lot of vultures and "flippers" At say a $450 price point, someone hungry for fast cash is tempted to strip the tube, the boards sell them and dump in a $40 60-1 board. And flipping the whole thing for over $1000. If we are talking authentic game preservation the low price point can actually hinder the cause.

Don't think that happens here? I have seen items that are $1000+ new to buy being lowballed at $400, and people getting pestered over it. Again, if it is about community, and hobby and friendship and all, where does the above actions fit in?
