Hey all...I just bought this Ms. Pac man recently and it is was originally a regular pac man converted into a ms. pac man. Looks like the board was just swapped. It came with a speed chip in a bag not put in...but when i install the speed chip the screen goes wierd..What am i doing wrong? The kids would like to play it with the speed chip in once..Wied :)

As far as DIP switches...: http://www.crazykong.com/dips/MsPacman.txt

Freeplay shouldn't effect the speed of the game at all. Check to make sure all the pins are seated right (not bent), give the chip a good push down. Make sure the orientation of the chip is the same as the others on the board, the little indention on the chips should all be facing the same way. Make sure it's the right chip too... there's a chance they might've just put it on a 2732 (won't work) instead of a 2532... slim chance, but I've seen crazier things happen.

If you need a new speed chip for whatever reason, I can burn you one for $10 or http://hobbyroms.com can burn you one, either or, just to make sure you have the right chip and that it's good.

Thanks for the advice!! The speed chip is labeled texas instuments 2532jl...6F/NS.Is that the right chip? If so where does it go on the cpu board? Thanks AGAIN!!

Yeah, that should be the right chip. The boar is labeled in grids. It should go in location 6F. It goes in the location where that gold legged looking chip is, the one just to the right of the chip that has that 6H sticker on it.

When i remove chip 6F the screen goes black...Whats going on here? Does the dip switch have anything to do with the speed chip?

When i swap out the 6F chip with the 6F/NS spped chip the screen goes crazy and sometimes blank...But when i put the 6F chip back in the screen goes back to normal?? Whaddya think?? Bad chip?? Thanks in advance!!

Well...im not real sure that a standard 6F speedup will work with that mod you have. I have a board in the basement with that mod, I will check the 6F image and see if its modded or not. Im sure Mark knows this info and he didnt mention it being different so he either didnt notice mod or it does in fact use a standard 6F.
I would think it is a regular 6F with that mod but I will verify it for you.

So you were having the same results as i am having hey?? whats the cure??? i appreciate your advice for sure!!

Not really, I didnt try running a standard rom on the board. I just compared the image with my burner. I can plug one in tomorrow and see if it works or not.

Do you think this chip was made for a pac man board ..not a mrs. pac man board?

A MsPac board is a Pac board with different character roms and an aux board. Your board was hacked to play mspac without the aux board. I dont believe the standard 6F speedup will work with that romset. I have a board with the same mod you have, plugged in a standard speedup and it wont boot.
