Ms. Pac-man - Sounds cuts out and game won't credit

The initial problem was that the game would lose sound now and then. I recapped the board and threw it back in. Trying to coin the game is usually unsuccessful. Sometimes it will coin but then the sound will usually cut out. I'm fairly certain that the coin door wiring is fine. I've checked the harness, service switch works perfect, replaced both coin drop switches. It's starting to feel like a chip issue. Any suggestions on where to look?

What about your speaker? It could very well be the speaker just cutting in and out. Make sure the solder or connectors on the speaker are good. Maybe reflow some solder if it needs it. Worth a shot instead of getting into serious stuff right off the bat.

Ok, I checked my harness connector, cleaned the board edge, everything is nice and tight. Almost too tight. Still no credit at all. Was working 100% one day and then nothing the next. Service credits work just fine. Game plays with no problems at all. I'm going to start following wires next.

Check for those pesky white ceramic resistor packs that like to break. If you have those up by the edge connector then replace them with the epoxy encapsulated type. When they break, the cause odd problems.

Just updating this. Silly me, I had the ground and coin swapped when I replaced the coin switches. It makes a difference. Now it credits perfectly. I do still have the problem of sound cutting off at times though. I've recapped it, but it either cuts out or doesn't. I checked speaker connections and they are solid.

Try cooling the amp when sound goes out and see if it comes back, the thinking there is the amp may be getting too hot and entering thermal cut off or shut down mode.

Its more likely a socket issue on one of the sound proms. Those amps typically work or they dont. I have seen them partially fail before but its very uncommon. Usually when they partially fail they dont work fine sometimes and sometimes not....they will amplify but have static or distorted sounds.
Check the datasheet, I dont think these have a thermal cutout on them. Even if it does the amp is likely bad if its getting that hot.
