I never really shared much about my Ms Pac resto that started last summer so here we go. Some of you may have seen the threads about my health issue that started last August and that caused me to put this Ms Pac project on the back burner. With the weather finally improving work has started again. This will be a stenciling job (my first) and I'm looking forward to how it will turn out. Here's a few before pics. The cab is in pretty rough shape as you can see, especially the nasty lock bar hole and the bottom needed to be replaced. The lockbar and lobottom issues were addressed last summer as well as some bondo work, but a fair amount of work remainded when it was put on hold.

In another thread I had asked for questions on replacing the bottom and fixing that lockbar damage. The bottom was a pain because it originally had rabbet and dado joints and even trying to be careful the grooves were damaged. For the lockbar damage, I cut the damaged area more square and used a patch and piece of luan backing to fill that void. Here's how that turned out....pretty good I think. :)

I know prep work is really important so I'm being picky and getting it as good as I can. The back edges of the cabinet needed a lot of work and so did the corners. The plan is to get all metal parts powder coated.

Bump for this with some tangible progress to share. I found a local place that does powder coating so I got the door, control panel, marquee brackets, and speaker grill taken care of. You can also see some of the "internal" coin door parts like the coin mech cradles and coin doors all cleaned up and painted. I still need to get a plate for the door. The bezel was in decent shape and only missing blue in spots so that was touched up and triple thick coated. The rest of the work remaining is mostly on the cabinet so at least I can re-assemble once that is done.

Good job so far.
Thanks for the reply and rep for being the first. :) I know the pics I have shown so far haven't been terribly exciting but it's all the necessary stuff to get it ready for re-assembly when the cab is done. I think the painting progress will yield more interesting pics.

Could you provide tips on how you repaired the bezel with triple thick? Did you touch up paint first? Did you apply tripple thick to the entire bezel or did you mask of the clear area?

I am doing some minor restoration to my Ms. Pacman. Thanks for the help and good luck on yours!

I did a touch up first using Testors hobby paints and tried to match it as best I could. Once that was done then I applied the triple thick and yes I maked off the clear area. You just want to be careful not to get any painters tape sticking too the art that's already there when you mask off the clear area....I found that out the hard way and lost a few bits of the black pinstipe line on the very edge. I guess I had it in my pea brain that triple thick would be white, but it's pretty clear so no real worry about getting a bit on the viewing area of the bezel....what little bit I got makes that area slightly "cloudy" but it's not very noticeable especially since it's right on the edge.

This project does have some progress to report but it's been stalled again. I'm moving to a new house in the next ffew months so IDK how much I'll get done before the snow flies. The black parts have been powder coated and other metals painted as well. The more I think about it I was focusing on getting it ready for re-assemby once the cab was done so that took me away from the cab for quite a while. I need to finish a little more bondo and sanding on the cab, but she's real close. I also need to send the pcb to riptor for repair. At best it may be a case where I get the blue applied before the weather really turns and then stencil it next spring. I've also been spending my arcade free time working on my Star Wars cockpit so that's my own fault, though many would probaby understand. That one I wanted to get clean and ready to go into the house with no more mouse poop in it.

Edit: I see from my previous post I had that power coating work done back in mid-June. I kinda kick myself with time wasted when this project should be a lot closer to done, but oh well.

Holy crap it's been over 2 years since this thread began. Since then the cab was primed last September and finally I've made the commitment to finish this thing. The last few weekend were spent putting on multiple coats of blue and also painting the black. A few quick pics of the cab as it sits from yesterday's work. Besides the stencil work, I still have a few small metal pieces to paint including the back door vents. If this goes my goal is to keep the momentum going and stencil my Pac-Man this summer.

Looks good, could you post the paints you use?

I will be starting on my soon to be picked up Ms Pac on Wednesday and I have been on the phone with Home Depot and Lowes about the paints that are recommended matches. What paints did you use/going to use? Did you use Glidden Rhapsody? Just curious, thanks and I can't wait until summer to see how yours turns out. I'll be starting mine this week.

For the blue I went with the color KLOV members hgloth and hanzie used so credit to them for providing the paint codes. I took this image to my local Home Depot and it looks like hgloth's original information is still in their color match system because my paint was also labeled as Ms Pacman blue. :) FWIW I compared this paint after it was applied and dried to the strip of metal that goes along the back bottom edge of the cabinet. The blue that was still on that piece looked like a really great match. As for the yellow and pink I haven't purchased those yet the plan is to start stenciling in 2 weeks so the blue has plenty of time to cure.

That's cool! The guy said he added it to the system as ms Pacman blue!!

Be sure to give them the code under the barcode when you want this color. They couldn't find it when I asked for MS PAC MAN BLUE. The code is 844714267753 that's the code on the label.

Hm, with this I'm beginning to wonder if they have Ms. Pac Pink and Yellow in the system. Anybody check?

Well the blue I had custom mixed to match, was a custom color, the other colors were stock, Passion flower, and I can't remember the yellow , maybe sunny side up... All the codes are listed in my Ms Pac restore
