When powered on it boots up and all lights on playfield are on but dim. The game plays 100% other than the light issue. They also sometimes pulse brighter and dimmer. When you get to play the pac man maze it is extremely dim and after losing all lights are out on playfield until game is over... I have checked all connections but no loose ones. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I'm going to take a wild guess that the connector for the maze lights might need replacing also. I could be wrong, but my statement was more towards him saying all of the lights were dim which I just finished fighting on my Fish Tales.

Edit: Isn't this game normally known for socket/header pin issues anyways? If this isn't the issue or at least part of it I would be surprised.

Hell yes. I spent many happy(?) hours replacing those damn IDC connectors to make the game reliable.

I'm assuming your talking about the playfield insert lights and not the G.I. lights. That said, check the bridge rectifier BR1 on the power supply in the cabinet under the playfield. My guess is that your only getting half the rectified voltage. Also, check the fuse F1. It's a 20amp fuse and carries a lot of power. It'll get warm and tarnish/corrode making a bad connection.

I would be really surprised if a switched illumination issue was caused by general illumination connectors. I know... call me crazy ;)

The guy said all of them were dim so while my suggestion wouldn't have had an effect on the switch lights it would on the GI possibly.

I'm done fighting.

The switched illumination bridge was my first though too. It's easy enough to put a meter across the the bridge and see what the input (AC) and output (DC) voltages are. Could be caused by a number of things but that's a start.

We're not fighting. There is no argument one way or the other so there's no fight. I just pointed out that your advice would not solve the specific problem being asked about. That's worth mentioning (IMO).

Just to be on the safe side and to make sure... did you desolder the wires from the transformer before you tested it? A problem with the rectifers or a short further in the circuit could cause false low readings. Also, make sure your using the AC setting on your meter.
