Question about Ms. Pac-Man.

I had heard that there isn't a 'true' Ms. Pac-Man board, and that they are just modified Pac-Man boards. Is this true?

If so, is there a version of a Pac-Man board that has a dip switch for speed settings?

The reason I ask is that I've come across a Ms. Pac-Man cocktail table that looks very good. The only problem is, the character moves faster than the ghosts. The guy who is selling it isn't the kind of guy who would let you 'poke around' the inside of his game (he'd think you were damaging it somehow). But I must admit, it looks and plays tip-top. If I could verify that I could slow the character down after I bought it, I might consider it.

I would just hate to buy it and find out that it was a bootleg board.

Was there ever a Ms. Pac-Man board that had electronic dip switches, or were they always physical pins that you have to flip one way or another?

If its dedicated, its a simple eprom swap. Many members here have both speeds, I'm sure you can find someone to swap with. I'd start with Riptor.

If its a bootleg it may or may not be a dip setting, depends on the board.

When you buy a car, do you not look at the engine? If this guy wont let you so much as peek inside the cab then he dosent deserve your business.

Very good point. Thanks for your response.

So there is a 'fast' chip set for Ms. Pac-Man that would only require an eprom switch you are suggesting?

All MsPac pcbs were pac pcbs with an added daughterboard and a couple different roms. Sounds like that board has a 6F speedup rom in it. The 6F speedup speeds up pac only. There are some hardware mods that speed up the entire game and it can be switched with a toggle switch.

I have a Ms. Pac with the slow chip. Would gladly trade for the fast chip you have. That would save me the trouble of finding a blank and burning one.

PM me if you are interested. Thanks.

I've not purchased this Ms. Pac cocktail table just yet - I'm just gathering information so I know what I am looking for when I go and see it for a second time.

Final question - you would assume that since I've seen the Ms. Pac-man character with my own eyes going at a high speed, this is most likely due to a chip setting that would need to be switched if I want her to slow down - there's no way I will be pleasantly surprised and find a dip switch on any Ms. Pac-Man board that is responsible for speeding up and slowing down?
