So I went to see Avatar, and they had one of these reunion machines there.. I decided to drop my $.50 in and play...

That Joystick sucks.. The fire button Sucks, and what's up with the 25" monitor??? It's too damn big for this game.

I'll stick with the original thanks..

Just wanted to report that I think this games sucks..

That is all..

I think you mean 30th anniversarry, that machine came out alomst 10 years ago

Yeah, I was never a big fan of the Reunion machines - mainly because of the joystick/button, but the large monitor throws me off as well.

But, at least it's still playable Galaga.

There is no 30th anniversary machine out that I am aware of. The Ms. Pac/Galaga is the reunion machine and was on the 20th anniversary right? The pac-man was the 25th anniversary and is the current game available from Namco according to their site.

Oh, and the joysticks do suck and the monitor is too big..

It's appalling to me that Namco can't come up with a cabinet design or art that looks halfway decent. I think every one of those designs is crap. The originals are 1000x better looking.

they have one that i played at a local restaurant once. ONCE.

Awesome reference! ;)

Yeah, I'm not a fan of it. It's cool both games are on there, but the art is bad and the huge monitor is a turn off. If they had put in a 19" and lowered the price a bit I bet it would have been more attractive.

Yeah, it brings you down. It's almost like winning a contest and never getting your prize in the mail. ;) coughstupidgamercough

Sometimes you guys sound like a bunch of old men... ;)

I can understand what you are saying, but it's kinda funny how "perfect" everything was way back then...

edit - oops forgot the wink....

I had a guy talking to me about getting a multi machine, and he swore up and down that there's a glitch on the reunion machine, where if you're playing Galaga and the enemy is directly in front of your fighter (like a few pixels above), that the bullet will go through and you'll get killed. He tried it on a multi and it didn't do that.

Does anybody know if that glitch is truly in the 20th anniversary? I guess the roms must be different than the original, since it has the continue feature.

I had that happen to me... the shot went right through the enemy and I died.

There's another glitch that may/may not be there depending on the ROM set the game is running:

When in attract mode for Galaga, wait for the enemy to try to capture the ship and as the beam comes down, wiggle the joystick left/right a bunch and hit the fire button like crazy. You'll shoot the bad guy and get to play the rest of the attract screen until it switches screens.

You'll see that the game will move the ship left/right by itself. When it tries to move the game, let it. Or if you want it to crash, try to move it the other way. It'll toss up a stuck switch error on the screen and reboot.

I worked for an op, and he had a bunch of the yellow 25th anniversary ones, I would go in week after week and they'd be stuck on a 'stuck switch' error screen. You turn it off and back on, and it's fine. Maybe that was the problem? Namco couldn't ever tell us why they did that, so maybe it was the same glitch, maybe if somebody messed with the attract screen in the right way it would jam the game, and the 25th just hangs and doesn't reset like the 20th did. Hmmmm. I might have to go by one of the old spots and try it, lol.

I played a Class of 81' at a bowling alley recently and found it to play quite nice.
Haven't tried the 20th anniv that I know of.. unless the class of 81' is the 20th anniv.

Yeah, it is the 20th anniversary. The 25th anniversary basically was the same, It just lets you pick Pac-Man as well, although I think Pac-Man is hidden in the class of '81 version too.

I guess I'm in the minority. I think the 20th and 25th machines are pretty nice. FAR nicer than the typical xx-in-1 multigame conversion. The newer ones that are yellow and have pac-man are are downright awesome looking IMO. Also, the button and stick is a minor complaint and can be changed out. The big thing I dislike about them is the buy-in option, but I think it can be disabled in the setup (which I would do if I had one).

Another goofy thing about the 25th anniversary one was that there were 4 start buttons instead of 2... and one set looked like it started "Galaga", since it was surrounded by Galaga art. The games were selected by an on screen menu, though, so we got complaint after complaint for YEARS that they wanted to start Galaga, didn't read the menu, and pressed the 'galaga' start buttons only to start the first game on the list, Pac Man. We just unhooked the start buttons on that side, lol.
