So I am cleaning up a cab a little for a sale. It was a Ms. Pac that an OP installed a Jr. Pac kit on to... it looked good except for the really cheezy ass Jr. Pac "side art"...

...so i figured I'd remove the Jr. Pac sticker to see what's under it. At worst, I could paint the cab black since it's running a 48-in-1 (w/converter...the original harness is intact).

Not bad! The white stuff you see is a little bit of the melted sticker residue. The only thing is that it left a sticker residue. Can someone give me advise at to what specific product I could use to remove the sticker residue but leave the original side art paint? The stuff I have would slather both off...

"Goo Gone" is safe from my experience. "Goof Off" is the strong stuff.

a few light application of goo-gone, then lightly clean area with a magic eraser and you should be set. I just removed sticker residue off a machine with this method and it came out great. Don't go nuts with the magic eraser though

yep, stick with "Goo Gone," the citrus-based adhesive remover.

i tried to do the same on a Pac cab (remove some JR stickers that were added by an op,) and i could not get them off without removing paint. glad you had much better results than i did!

A combination of heat gun and this $9.99 "heated decal remover" I got from Harbor Freight did the trick with very little difficulty. When that decal remover gets hot and encounters the warmed sticker from the heat gun, it comes off like butter.

I believe those Jr Pac stickers were part of the Jr Pac conversion kit. Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean you should leave them on ;) Are you selling the cab with all the Jr Pac art intact?

I'd be careful with the Simple Green... I used it on my Pac Man and the paint started coming off. Could be that it was a bad repaint or something, but if you use it, test it in an inconspicous place first.

i have a cheap heat gun from HF; now i'll have to go check out this "heated decal remover." fortunately, HF is conveniently on my way to picking up the boy from daycare.

Bought some Goo Gone. The stuff ABSOLUTELY SUCKS. I've been working for over an hour and a half trying to get all the residue off... I'm about 1/2 there.

There HAS to be a better way.

I can not recommend Goo Gone for this job to anyone. I feel ripped frankly.

I'm real anxious to see what finally works for you.

I am about ready to get the sideart off of a Mario Bros., and am going to pick up that $9.99 tool from Harbor Freight.

But, I'll have the melted residue to deal with as well.

Simple green is usually concentrated, so, the best thing to do in my opinion is to mix it into a bowl of hot water, and dip a rag in there and use that to clean the cab. Too much Simple Green will definitely pull paint off. Learned by also using it on my pacman cab!

Well... I needed the residue off TODAY as the buyer is coming tomorrow. While it was still work, believe it or not, WD-40 worked about two to three times as well as Goo Gone... and it didn't pull up the paint (well, extreme rubbing left some blue on the rag but so did the Goo Gone). It still SUCKED bigtime... that was a 3 hour freakin' job just to get a 2' x 10" or so sized piece of sticker residue off... ridiculous. There's gotta be SOMETHING better. I almost tried carb cleaner as that works pretty well at getting CPO residue off but man the stink... so I tried WD... and it worked better than the Goo Gone so I stuck with it until the residue was gone. I then washed it down with a wet rag and I am calling it a day.

I have used WD-40 too to remove adhesives ..... but I agree with you that there has to be something easier.

I'll try a few different things too, and will post back if I find something better. I hope to be getting around to this within the next week or so.

Anyway, glad you got yours done in time. :)

I have a couple things that work GREAT ... but they'd also take off the paint under the adhesive. The key is to find something that works on adhesive but not on paint.

I would be inclined to keep the cabinet as is. Not sure if I would have left those stickers on or not. I definitely would leave the lower front sticker and the rest of the artwork like it is. It looks pretty decent like that. I have a Jr. Pac PCB but no cabinet for it.
