So I decided to pull out the PCB from my Ms. Pac to clean the interior of the cocktail and noticed the that the board didn't have the usual daughter card. I've messed around with a half a dozen Ms Pac boards and never ran across one like this. Is this common in cocktails? Or is it something else like a clone? Are they rare?

That's the modified version. That's all I know about it myself though.

The factory modified one I have is like this, but my other one has the standard daughter board with ribbon cable.

Would that be a factory modification? I see you have a Ms. pac cocktail too. Does yours come with the standard board?

Not sure... Mine has the larger board and smaller daughter board with the ribbon cable, like what you mentioned you've seen before.

There was a ROM version that utilized 2 extra ROMs in Row 6 to eliminate the daughter card. IIRC, it was called the "Super Pac Gal" hack. The version that I had played exactly the same as regular speed up Ms. Pac. I don't remember which ones anymore but a few wire wrap wires were added to the backside of the PCB in order to access the extra ROMs. Sockets needed to be installed as well. I think that all of the ROMs for Row 6 were different than the original code and were not interchangeable with them. The character ROMs in Row 5 were the same, though. Original Pac and Ms. Pac run on the same board and there were several hacks to make it play other games as well as the better known multi setups.

As far as I know, its was speed up only and as I mentioned, the rest of the Row 6 Roms were different from the standard ones so you couldn't just switch out the 6F.
