I thought they were the same cabinet ? Bought a gutted Ms Pac , decided to revive it as Galaga. I put the monitor in (with plastic bezel/plexi). Installed glass bezel and there is about 1" gap between bottom of plastic bezel and viewing window of glass bezel. Like the monitor needs to move down @ 1" toward CP but can't.

I used a Ms. Pac-Man to build my Galaga. I took it down to bare wood and put black formica on the sides.

A couple of things to consider:

--The monitor sets lower or closer to the control panel on Galaga than Ms. Pac-Man. I had to cut a couple of slots so the frame of the monitor could slide into the correct spot.

--Also, the coin door is lower on Ms. Pac-Man than Galaga. I did not notice this until I was installing the kickart. At that point, I was not going to correct it.

Yes. They must be subltly different. I guess I'm just trying to figure out what I need fix to fit the Galaga stuff easily.

I have BOTH original cabs....they are NOT the same cabinet. But, if you don't sweat authenticity, Ms. Pac is a darn close approximation.

I wouldn't skip the opportunity of converting a gutted Ms Pac into a Galaga. My Galaga cabinet is totally shot, those fiberboard cabinets did not withstand the test of time.

I did the same thing. The only issue I had was with the monitor position. It did not bother me until I got a repro plexiglass bezel. No problem with the bezel itself (beautiful). There was about an inch gap at the bottom. I covered it with black construction paper. A relatively quick and dirty fix but it doesn't bother me. I decked it out with Galaga side and kick art and a new repro marquee (also beautiful). The monitor is a WG-K7000. I have had it around for 12 years or so and it works great. Beautiful picture and is a real champ. I went with a 60-in-1 because Galaga PCBs are too expensive (yeah, I know 60-in-1 sucks). I used a modified Galaxian control panel and covered it with a cheapo multi Galaga CPO. If I one day go with an original PCB, I will also hope to get a dedicated control panel and have it be a purer machine overall. I would also put a new PS and JAMMA harness and use an adapter. However, it still looks great and I still refer to it as my Galaga. It had been for many years a Raiden and I enjoyed playing it. Unfortunately, my Raiden 2 PCB crapped out and Raiden was boring by comparison. I had been wanting to build a Galaga from that cabinet for years, so I finally went and did just that.

Yeah, the CPO kind of looks like ass and the coin door needs to be repainted, but overall, I am very happy with this machine. Its a bit of a "poor man's" Galaga but it is what I could do and I am proud of it.

Yes, that's my problem with the monitor. I'm not sure where you cut the slots to make it fit though ?

The MsPac cabinet is made of much better materials than the galagas. You get one drop of water on a galaga and it swells up like a balloon.
I was aware of the coin door being in a different location but never knew about the monitor/bezel difference.

I will have to take a look to remember for sure, as my game is in storage and it was restored almost 16 years ago... crazy.... how time goes by. With the help of my dad, we unbolted the monitor and removed the lower bracket and slid the monitor down until the thin part of the frame where you mount the lower bracket hit the wood below the bezel and where the control panel meets. We marked where the frame hit and then cut a thin slot almost the exact thickness of the thin part of the frame. The lower part of the frame then slid into the slot permanently and we drilled new holes above for the upper bracket bolts.

That actually makes sense ! I feared having to trim that whole piece of wood . And the bracket itself . Your way seems easiest and least invasive .
