it starts up and credits fine but after only a few seconds of play the it goes out and all this crazyness appears across the screen, then it resets its self. sometimes resetting it self to a slightly glitched out looking attract screen, sometimes to a perfectly fine looking screen thats able to be credited and played again for a bit.

sometimes this happens after the starting music plays, beofre actual game play. sometimes a few seconds into game play and sometimes after your first man dies.

i tried cleaning and reseating all the main connecting onto the board, which let me get a few good rounds in but its doing it again

thanks for any help. maybe its telling me its time to invest in the 6-pac?

I had the same issue. It was the connector. Hit the edge connector contacts with a pencil eraser, and double check the harness for any corrosion. Make sure it's a tight fit.

Get a friend to wiggle it during gameplay. If it starts acting up, you may need to replace the connector.

You're not running a filter board on this, are you?

filter board? is that the one on the metal bracket with the ribbon cable going to it? theres two other smaller boards right on top of the main board held on with zip ties. one closer to the back door and one right where that ribbon cable connects

The one with the ribbon is the auxiliary board that turns your pac board into a Ms Pac board.

The filter board is between your wiring harness and the main board. Looks like this:

If it's installed - GET RID OF IT.

ya, i think someone already did that. i got the game off a knowlegable guy on here so im not suprised.

i did some cleaning on the connection with an eraser and a light bit of automotive electrical connector cleaner and its all shiney now. it was playing a little longer but then doing the same thing, but after even more cleaning i think ive got 'er

FYI,
not to say that this is YOUR problem, but I have seen a dying Z80 do something similar to what you're describing on a PAC board once....

The ribbon cable looks new, it might be just a tad too long. Jumper 5v to the daughter board and see if everything clears up.

Also check 5v on the main board.

Just got a near mint Ms. Pacman from a guy that has had it for almost thirty years and it does the same thing. Since I brought it home three weeks ago it has gone glitchy once. The guy who owned it told me that if that happened to reseat the two little boards on the main board. It's been trouble free until today when I lost sound and reseating those little boards did the trick again. Hope that helps.

Also, corrosion on the fuse holders in the bottom of the cab can cause glitchy power. If your cab has the original brass fuse holders they should be replaced.

You can get new ones at Radio Shack.
