What are your feelings on this pin? I remember playing it as a kid but haven't played or even seen one in over 25 years.

I watched some youtube videos on it and after hearing the sounds, it seems to have the same hum as firepower. I have a firepower too so i dont know how this would mix being the 2 pins i own.

Also is the MPU board universal or is it bound to Mr. & Mrs. Pacman? Model number of the MPU board?

Does the game have issues, break down, anything i should be aware of? Going rate on a good-excellent conditioned machine?

Thanks guys!

Pretty good game. A local guy has a FPII and Pac next to each other - it works just fine.

Sqwuak n talk board is the big issue on this one. I've passed on like 8 of them in the $400-$500 range, working but unshopped.

Paid $300 for mine with a bad MPU, flaking backglass and other small problems. MPU is a very common culprit, notorious for battery acid damage. Luckily its the same MPU used in many Bally & Stern pins of that era. I had mine rebuilt and had a supercap put in it, I think that cost around $100. Or for twice that, you can get whats called the "ultimate" MPU which is basically a new aftermarket MPU designed to work with numerous Bally & Stern pins (again from that era).

I think alltogether I have about $550 into it (that includes the original $300 investment). Ive heard they book anywhere from $800 to $1200, but most of them I see tend to stay in that $500 range.

Its a fun pin, certainly replayable. Weve had ours for over a year now I think and still play it on a regular basis (although it is the only pin we own). If you like Pac-Man, youll probably like this pin.

I too have a video of it on YouTube BTW.

What makes you say that? It can be a difficult board to repair but not really much more than the MPU. It's just another Motorola 6800 based computing system. I've owned/own quite a few games with S&T and I haven't had too many problems. Maybe I'm just lucky :)

I love it but a lot of people don't. It's really a preference thing. I think the maze is cool but it seems to confuse a lot of people. It was also one of the first pins I owned so that probably helps with liking it so much. I gave one to my father in-law for Christmas a few years ago and I played it a few weeks ago and still enjoyed it. I've got 2 of them that are restoration projects and a bunch of extra parts. Did I mention I really like that game?

Those 2 pins are quite different in both sound and game play. Another Williams pin from that era will have a lot of the exact same sounds but a Bally machine will be totally different.

Well... not exactly universal but it's about as universal as you can get when it comes to pinball MPUs. Just look at the production numbers. The model is typically called -35 (dash thirty five). You could also use a modified -17 or Stern MPU100. An MPU200 might also work but I wouldn't try it based on the unpredictable effect of the faster clock speed.

It's definitely not a game you would have a hard time finding parts for if you needed them.

Acid damage on the MPU would be my first concern. Beyond that it's basic Bally pinball stuff.

There is usually playfield wear around the maze inserts. Most of the wear areas on that game are black so that's nice for touch-up.

It could go from $400-$1200 pretty easily. It's a game that varies a lot based on condition. Non-working projects can sell really cheap and nicely restored games can sell high. I wouldn't pay more than the middle of that range personally.

I enjoy it but I'm admittedly a pinball newb. It's the only pin I've owned. I paid $800 for mine in pretty nice condition.

Think i might pick it up then. Decent price and pictures look outstanding. I know someone said no ramp play but my firepower has no ramp play either and it's fun as hell!

Went to see/buy it today. Guy wanted $400 and pictures looked great. My biggest buying factor was the extra MPU board the guy had with it. So i drove 80 miles and when i arrived we turned it on, looked great except bubble up mylar in the middle of the playfield near the light maze. Took glass off to examine it more and noticed paint coming up with it. Instant turn off but hey i could offer more right?

Checked out the playing of the game and the playfield light field, ie maze didnt light up in either attract mode nor during game. Turn off again as we sat there and tried to figure out problem. Bulbs were still good. Board is nothing but a dummy board filled with lights. Continuity in the wires were fine, and all fuses checked still nothing.

As im sitting there talking to the son in law, he said the MPU board was underneth the machine. I looked at it and it was nothing but an extra power supply. Another downer. These are 3 things i specifically asked on phone and email. Working, playfield good-excellent, and the extra working board was the MPU.

So i decide to pass while the son in law continues to work on the machine. He tells me to make an offer to the old man so i leave house to find him outside. State that i already have enough projects and we dont know if the part to fix it is a $5-$100 part so would he take less if he wants to get rid of it. He said how much do you have, i said i would offer $260 and he said no he paid $600 for it. I explained that it doesnt matter what he paid, but what value today is and that it's broke as the main feature doesnt work. He didnt seem to care so my wife and i got back in van and left.

Oh well. Didnt need it anyways i guess.

to some ,current value doesnt compute, they think what they originally paid is what its worth or more

when i still lived in cincy years ago, i worked for kings ford, a customer brought in a 8 yr old ranger with 150k bad purple paint, and HEAVY smoke smell, we are doing paperwork , the wife asks me about trade, i tell her 1500, she looked like she was gonna cry!, she TRULY thought it was worth 7000 trade, husband had sense though and deal got done

so people grow attached and its like time freezes

Eh, win some lose some. Be careful about helping someone with their game in a situation like that though. Always let them do the tinkering if it comes to that.
I think $300 would have been a fair offer, considering the game did work and did come with at least some spare board. That's still worth something you know.

Yea it was agreeable for $400 a fully working nice pin. I didnt help other then inspect game and get certain parts to work as they should. It was quite humorous that the older guy said the maze part isnt supposed to work as all he did was move the arrows around with the flippers and points would show up on the scoreboard. LOL

UPDATE!!! (queue the unsolved mysteries music)

As the wife and i was waiting for our popcorn to enjoy Predators, i received a text message from the son in law stating that "he will take $250 for it" I tell the wife and she says to tell him you will be there tomorrow to pick it up.

Picked it up today, $250 cash, $10 cheaper then my offer 2 days ago. I guess i was a nice young man and he knew it was going to a good home.

Now 2 issues to fix, mylar coming up and the maze board. Pics in a few days once its set up in basement!

Great! Hope you get everything going. I wouldn't worry too much about the mylar, once the game starts up and all the lights are going you probably won't even notice it. Unless it's really bad...

I have this game..its notorious for bad connector pins..if you have good bulbs and checked for good continuity I would reflow the pins at the connectors too...or throw in ultimate mpu board and you should be good to go until you feel like tinkering with older mpu board.

Mr & Ms Pacman purchase

I just picked up one of these today at an old car swap meet - $175.00
Don't know if it works yet or not. It's dirty, but Looks complete, don't see any visible battery leak damage. Overall in average condition, I could not pass it up. I just finished up doing my repair from the dead & shop job on an '81 Bally Embryon and was looking for another project.
