these must be possessed... We noticed last week the right bumper didn't always respond, but tonight the left bumper once hit in a game keeps firing even without the ball hitting it (and keeps scoring) about every second. Any ideas on the cause of this?

Thanks! Lots of reading, have read there before tonight. Cleaned some contacts and adjusted one switch more sensitive and the quick firing one less sensitive and we're good to go. Still have to chase down a few bad bulbs/sockets in the maze (3 or 4) and the "M" in pacman on the play field, but its playing well. Thanks again for the direction!

not a problem, on my night rider, i replaced all the bulbs to find some still not working, a couple were bad sockets, and a couple were actually problems with the light driver board itself, cold solder joints. good luck

sockets

Anyone have a source for these sockets? I've checked every pinball website I can find, and emailed them trying to find an exact replacement. Pinball resource has something kinda similiar but not as tall of a bracket which will of course put the bulb closer to the play field which concerns me a little. I have a few bad sockets and would love to find an exact replacement, even if used but working.

Thanks!

If you buy the shorter ones you could straighten and re-bend the bracket or use a spacer.

I would probably try to find someone parting out a playfield and buy all of the sockets. I see that kind of stuff on ebay all the time.

You could also try a want ad on RGP or Mr. Pinball.

You might also be able to work with what you've got. What specifically is wrong with the sockets? Are they melted? Sometimes the 555 lamps can be a pain to get working and you have to bend the contacts. You could also have lamp driver board problems causing lamps to not work.

a couple sockets I've tried to clean contacts, my multimeter is getting correct voltage on back terminal while in the flashing bulb test mode, but not on the contact in the socket. I have one socket that the bracket is broken off entirely. Been watching ebay for about 3 weeks (since we first started working on it) and no 555 bally sockets have come up that look the same. I'll try the want ads too.

I have a few bulbs out on the maze that I need to check out, I think that is a connector issue because it isn't always a problem.

Thanks!

The maze doesn't use regular bulbs, it has led's. If it's sometimes working you're right it's a connector problem. There's also a board in the head that's an 'auxilarly light board" that runs the maze and some other bulbs, you may have bad transistors on there. You can trace it through the schematics and those transistors are easy to replace and test, AND they're cheap.

Thanks! actually I ordered and replaced all the small bulbs on the maze. They are LED size but a standard bulb, I forget the number off the top of my head. The aux light board is new so I just need to figure out which connector and repair. Loving the game, can't wait to get my new drop targets in the mail, have a couple that are broken at the spring loop, plus they are a mismatch of different colors and designs based on whatever the crew had on hand when it was repaired in the past.

right flippers out

right flippers quit working this evening. Interestingly enough, when testing I got into the pacman maze and the right flipper button is controlling just fine in the maze. Upon inspecting inside, I noticed a broken connection at this coil. See photo in bottom right to right of yellow tag (from someone else's machine. I connected this wire back up just temporarily and it fires against a metal plate on the side of the cabinet and just hums like crazy. I'm not sure if it was hooked up or not before. I own the manual, it is not listed in the diagram anywhere that I can find. I'm not sure what it is and if it could be related to our newest glitch.

Can someone steer me in the right direction on this?

Thanks!

http://www.ipdb.org/showpic.pl?id=1639&picno=26181 is the link to the image that shows it. I didnt have time before tucking the kids in to lift the playfield to take my own photo.

I've added a photo of what it looks like off, you can see the broken green wire. When that is reconnected, the coil kicks the plunger hard against the metal plate on the side of the cabinet and it just hums.
