Since I have Tazzmania done with the exception of new T-molding, I figured I would pull the old Mr. Do! out and get working on it finally. LOOKS like a Universal cab....but something was always different. Couldn't put my finger on it until today. Gonna do this in 2 posts so check out the pics...

Next post...the reveal! Ohhhhhhh!!!!!!! Oooooohhh AHHHH!!!!!!!

Figure it out yet?

This was a Space Invaders Deluxe cab at one point. Chipping paint, and the sides aren't cut the same at all. almost a half inch difference, and inside, the areas where the boards were mounted are still there...just removed. Unique mounting frame of tube steel for the monitor too. Coin door was repainted black over the grayish SID coin door.

Paint on the bottom where it's flaking off is IDENTICAL to the one I have here in the house.

Never know what you're gonna find I guess........

I thought it might have been something else too, but after measuring my Deluxe here in the house, the depth is the same, the width is too. Height...shortened a little, but with the cutting and hacking that was done, I expected it to be different there.

On the CP, what they did was take the flat SI CP, and change it to an angle by cutting the outside edge, and rounding it off.

Where the sides are cut to make them round instead of straight, the work there is alright, but after looking really close, looks like it was cut with a sabresaw...not rounded well, but close...that would explaing the difference in the side being almost a half inch off.

Piant...was done with a roller..a good one though, then the stencil was sprayed. Width is uneven as heck, with quite a bit of overspray.

To me, the big question is was this something anyone has seen before? Something cut down like this...very close to a Universal cab, and the work is actually good. The work was done a long time ago from what I can see.

the shape matches the taito classic cabs of qix, jungle king, frontline, and many others. not quite the same as a universal.

that is a lot of work to change a cab like that, and do the sideart. maybe the original op had a taito row? or maybe something bad happened to the top of the cab.

I've not looked at the next post yet, but that there is a TAITO cab, not a UNIVERSAL cab.

EDIT: Ahh... you're right! The speaker grill area... the CP... DAMN! Someone put some serious time in to that conversion.

Tell me about it. Lots went into this one. The rounded cuts on the sides are a little off, but still...damn. Had me fooled for over a year.

Damn thing is about 3 inches shorter than a normal cab now. Gonna have to do something there.
