I don't know if someone was playing with the dip switches on me, but everything is working but the sound.

I believe the problem lies somewhere with the squawk and talk board. The potentiometer for speech is fine, but I don't get anything for sound. Any fast suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Also, swap the Speech pot with the sound pot. if you now have sounds but no speech, replace the pot. if you get no change, then you at least know the pots are okay....

update

I had all the capacitors and pots replaced, still have speech but no sounds. Any suggestions? Is there a setting I missed or a chip I need to replace?

The sound just disappeared one day and hasn't come back.

Maybe a wire came loose on one of those crappy idc connectors. I had an issue on mine where it would loose the background sound sometimes and thats what it was.

thats why your games is broke my mr pac man pinball works good you know why I pay big to get my games to work pms that Coolo

Thanx for geting back with me on the nintendo vs chips Thanx

I have no chips to sell. I have boards to sell that have chips on them. I told you via PM (at least twice) that I needed to test them, but that I was busy right now and would let you know when they have been tested. I have not yet had time, and I guess I didn't respond to your last "Any update?" PM because I checked it at work.

I have not sold it to anybody else, and am not keeping it. If you needed it by a certain date you should have mentioned it. Otherwise be patient and I'll let you know.

And if you have a problem with me not answering, just start a new thread entitled "Modessitt - Respond to my PM's!" I don't always check every single thread I post in again, so I wouldn't normally see it.

Plus - it's not nice to crap up somebody else's thread just because you have a problem with me and I happened to post in here...

So that was a sarcastic reply? I thought the guy was actually thanking you.

Fail brand weak sauce.

Thanks guys! I didn't see the pinball threads, sorry. I'm checking the IDCs now. The only test I know how to perform on the S&T board is the one regarding the button on the board itself and the light...I doubt that's the bench test you are referring to.

And the point of working on your own machines is that you learn how to properly take care of them. I don't like other people touching my babies. Coolio?

Here's some good info on how the board works:

http://www.marvin3m.com/bally/squawk.htm

If you have replaced the caps and pots I would take a look at the dual op-amp at U14 and work back from there. Also see if any of the ICs are getting hot.

The Squawk and Talk is a complicated little board. More complicated than the MPU in many ways.

As far as bench testing goes you apply power, attach a speaker and press the test button. It's not difficult. If you're going to be really digging into the board it's going to be a lot easier to test it out of the machine.

I think he really meant to write 'coolo'... I believe that's "butt" or "as*" in spanish.

According to the "Urban Dictionary":
"Coolo - is the misspelled pronunciation of the spanish word culo wich means ass, so when somebody is called a coolo that doesn't really mean something cool."

Seems to fit, in context of the whole message.
