Mr and Mrs Pacman MPU Boot Issue

Got a board from someone a while back that was said to work. It has the right ROMs in, but I get a solid LED when I turn it on. Anyone know the right switch settings for all the dipsSwitches. Before I get into total board repair, I want to make sure the swithes are right and that they didnt accidently get changed in shipping or something. Thanks guys, this will bemy second pin you all have helped me get going.

See Below

Edited because switches have nothing to do with the problem

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but there is no DIP setting that will cause a solid LED. DIPs are not even considered until the MPU has booted (seven flashes).

well..not totally bad news, cause after I turn it off, turn it back on, sometimes, it boots. Goes through the 7 flashes and then has a dim solid LED on. then it turns off and stops running. Then sometimes, it doesnt boot at all, no LED, and other times, locked on. guess I have to look into a couple of other things, maybe reset circuit?

I would suspect a reset circuit problem first but also flaky sockets.

the sockets all look like the newer style. The board has been worked on definitley. I took the board out of the cabinet and later tonight I will power it with a PC power supply and see what I can figure out.

If the sockets are original and you have intermittent problems after ensuring that the reset circuit is functioning properly I would definitely replace them.

The sockets are not original. I pulled the board out and ran it with a pc power supply. At first it didnt boot, solid LED, then I reset by shorting pins 39 and 40 on U9, and no LED what so ever, then again, and it booted correctly, 6 flashes since not getting the 43v for the 7th flash. I'm gonna try reseating the chips, then I can replace any sockets, although none are original. Is there one chip in particular that I should concentrate on? Thanks.

If it's only booting consistently with manual resets you've got a problem with the reset circuit. I would suggest the conversion to a Dallas DS1811. You'll never have reset problems again.

I don't if it is the reset circuit. I reseated chips U9, U10 & U11, and now it consistantly boots fine. Looking at the sockets, they are definitely newer, I can't see any poor solder connections either. The pins of the chhips themselves look pretty dingy, I assume it would be ok to clean them up a bit? a little dremel wire wheel action?

I wouldn't use the dremel. Too much chance of breaking a leg. If anything I would use some fine sand paper and clean them carefully by hand.
