Does anyone know of a valid modern-day replacement for these? Looking for something readily available at Mouser, Digikey, etc. NTE188 (MPSU07) and NTE189 (MPSU57) are both long out of production.

I know Bob carries them for $3/4 bucks a piece, but that seems a bit much, or at least too much to order any kind of quantity on. And what to do when he runs out of the original parts?

The NTE's are out of production? Pretty sure I bought some at Fry's not that long ago...

Well, that being said, I did find that information here, so I'm going off of what other people said. I can't find NTE188 anywhere online, but Mouser and Newark have NTE189.......for 31 bucks a piece.... :001_ssad:

We don't have Fry's here, do you recall how much you paid for them there?

NTE's never really were in production. One thing to remember is that NTE really doesn't make transistors or IC's. They buy up old, leftover dies and package them. When they're gone - that's it.

As Ken mentioned -- Central Semiconductor still makes these. Only problem is finding a distributor that has these part numbers. Only part number that I carry from Central Semi is the heavily used by Gottlieb CEN-U45.

You -might- be able to request samples from Central on their online page.

NDS = National Semiconductor, and they haven't made discretes for a while
CEN = Central Semiconductor. They were still selling the CENU07/57 as of a few years ago (in addition to 2n3916/2972s, for less than what Bob charged).

You can go to the NTE web site and enter the parts; I believe the NTE49/50 are the higher rated parts. There is typically a page you can go (check inventory) which will bring up a list of suppliers which have the parts. Several years ago, I bought some NTE49/50s that way. ECG parts have the same number.

You can still get the CEN parts but the minimum is quite large. I would have no problem stocking them if I knew the demand was there. It would also depend on if I could price them lower than Bob since I know he still sells them.

Billtronix lists some available equivalents on his site.

I think Bob sells original PN and subs. Im not sure if his subs are a direct fit so you would have to check with him. There are some readily available subs out there but you have to cross the legs.

Which is pretty hard to do since it's the outer legs.

I can't believe it, I just scored a batch of MPSU07s and MPSU56s (Not 57s regretfully) at my local electronics shop for as low as €1 each (about $1.37) :)

The 56 differs voltage is 80V instead of 100V and hFE is 60 instead of 80....hope they will work....

The ZTX 653/753 transistors are cheap and can be subbed without crossing legs. Just have to get the right heat sinks for them but they're cheap enough.

5 year bump to get updated info and current market availability.

What's the latest and greatest part # for the MPS-U07/U57 TO-220 transistors on the deflection board?

I have found CEN-U07U57 on Digikey for $3.50 each. Is that pretty much the going rate? Have also found ECG-U07/U57 for about the same price.

First time having to worry about replacing one of these.

(I tried looking up the ZTX 653's, but they were the TO-92 size. Not sure what heatsinks are available)

Biltronix recommended, in the past (his K6100 parts lists etc), both BR and Mouser for U07 and/or U57. But those sites are prohibitive now for MOQ or price.

That said, less than $4 for those (CEN-XXX), each, probably is a valid price.

EDIT: For G08, Bill had recommended changing the U10 and U06 from TO202 to TO92(w/ sink) packages but I'm weary to do so. I'd rather use the larger parts. (YMMV)
