Hi;
I have searched the forums as well as Google'd a solution but all I get are more obsolete references.....

Has anyone found a suitable replacement for the MPSU03 that they would be willing to share?

Thanks

Jeff

Have you seen this site, says they have the originals ($3.26)
http://www.mcmelectronics.com/content/ProductData/Catalog50/section16.pdf

If you really need an alternative, follow this drawn out process

Go here
http://alltransistors.com/transistor.php?

At the top, type your transistor number IE: MPSU03
Click on the link MPSU03
Click on Equivalent transistors for MPSU03
You will see 1 result, but that's OK, look up and see all them parameters
Remove the entry next to caps ie remove X17 and hit search

Now you have 84 results for the same transistor BUT the pin configs could be different (BCE, EBC etc), and the case may be different

Does it look like this?
X17.jpg

If so, then try typing TO-220 or TO-202

They will physically fit in the space of a X-17 if it looks like the little pic

Hi;
Thanks for the links, (Excellent!) and for the tutorial.

Bob Roberts has the MPSU03 but I am looking for a more robust replacement, might as well if I am going to go through all the trouble.....

I will do the sub thing and post me results here once I find the one I am looking for.

Thank you again for your help.

Jeff

A big source of cross-reference and replacement components is NTE: http://www.nteinc.com

Their product which cross-refs to MPS-U03 is NTE190, which has a somewhat higher collector-emitter voltage rating (180 vs 120) as compared to the MPS-U03 (it's the same as the MPS-U04 rating).

A downside is that NTE's parts sell for a premium. I only use them as a last resort.
