Greetings,

First post here, but I've been lurking for some time.

I've recently acquired Daytona USA twin cabinets and I've never had the chance to dig around in one, but these monsters need to be torn down to reduce the weight of the cabinets and moved in two pickup trucks by two people.

They appear to be in decent shape, the games somewhat work, so I bought them to keep myself busy. The current owner has no idea how far they can be torn down and I can't get over there until moving day.

Can the base/seating/flooring cabinet be separated from the upper monitor cabinet? I'm assuming they are bolted together?

My plan is to separate them and if the monitor cabinet is still too heavy, then remove the monitors as well.

Any ideas?

It is possible. Karl has two twin Daytona USA sitdowns in his living room. If anyone can explain how to break them down to get them through a standard door, he can.

Yep, he gave me some tips on separating my Super GT.

You have to remove the bolts that are within the coin door as well as the ones in the back. Be sure to unplug all the cables in the back and save the opto couplers.

I PMed him back, I suggested pulling the monitors and control panels, as well as the wood boards the PCB cages mount to. I didn't know he was talking about an actual twin. lol

as mentioned, the two halves bolt together with the coin box part in the middle. the coin box has harnesses that come off both game PCBs, and then you'll have the red and black fiber optic cables (the opto couplers r3ll1k speaks of) those just plug into the backs of the game units.

that's about all I can come up with for breaking them down.

Thank you for replying to my PM; I sent you another before seeing your comments here.

As of now, I will have to remove the steering/control panel console, Monitors and PCB cages to reduce the weight. Sounds good to me.

The flooring must unbolt from the upper monitor housing. It just has to. Who would forge steel in a huge L shaped thing for a racing game. I sure hope it comes apart.

Thank you. Any help/info on this move is appreciated.

Thank you for that link as I'm going into this blind and I don't have all night to tear these down. The guy kind of wants them out and gone in a few hours and he's going to help, but he and four other guys carried each cab in, in one piece with the flooring intact. I have two, myself included, maybe three guys, so I need these to be a reasonable weight and size for us to move.

Thank you and to all others for the responses.

well they didnt go into living room but a uhaul that wasnt short and it was a pain but without removing stuff it took 6 of us guys to move a twon id3 setup. it sucked bad. with a ramp it took 3 of us to get them off of the truck. its just too bad we couldnt get them working........ :-(

Thank you for your horrific image of 'fail'. I sure hope my move goes better than yours did. I have learned that the monitor cabinet can indeed be unbolted from the floor/seat unit and I will remove more items as needed from each to get the weight down.

Tomorrow is moving-night.

Yes and no...

Yes, the monitor section "can" be unbolted from the base
(...although you'll need to remove 12 large bolts
and the monitor section will look precariously top heavy to stay upright ),
but the real problem will be with all the wiring...

The base has ALL the wiring for the game and it's quite a rat's nest.
Separating the two parts might prove to be a bigger challenge than
you might think especially with pedal assembly which is bolted to the base
but the wiring runs into the back of the cabinet.

It's not like a Cruis'n USA cab which was designed to be split in half
and can be done very easily by remove 4 simple bolts.

The Daytona cab was not meant to separated from the base
and doing so, IMHO , is asking for alot of extra effort and trouble
with disconnecting alot of wiring.

Each sitdown unit is on casters (wheels) and is fairly easy to move around.
( although going up or down stairs would be a REAL bitch ! )

When I picked-up my twin, I had open tailgate trailer
and just wheeled each unit on. This was only a 2-man job.

If you are trying to load them into a pickup,
I would suggest trying to find ramps
(...long enough so the incline isn't too steep )

Good Luck.

Steph

I've got some info on taking apart a Sega Daytona 2 and a Sega Super GT at my site. Check out www.aaarpinball.com and look under the Daytona 2 and Super GT sections. I'm sure it doesn't apply 100% but some might be useful.

Hmm,

So the wiring harness does not come apart? Can I unplug things and stuff the harness into the separated cabinets?

Me and the seller loaded both cabs onto my truck. It helped that the cab was in a storage unit with a steep driveway. All I did was back the truck up and dropped the tailgate. The tailgate was almost level with the floor of the storage unit. Used a piece of plywood as a ramp. Unloaded both with a buddy of mine when I got home. They are awkward to move but it's definitely doable especially with 3 people.

Someone should start a Sega Dually club for all the people that own the twin sit down driving cabs.

I moved them and they were heavy and no casters on the base of these units so it was all brute force.

I do not recommend going into the job unprepared. I was slightly unprepared, but the three of us tore them down and loaded them and two of us unloaded them into my garage and re-mounted the monitor cabinets to their base.

I had to disconnect many connections on the wire harness, but you just number each side of the plugs with a sharpie, thanks to Altan for that idea, and reconnecting them is no problem at all.

It took 2 hours to disassemble and load the two. Yes I'm sore.
