Movie based Pinballs way better than movie based video games

There's probably no easy explanation for this, but has anyone noticed that while movie based video games generally really suck, some of the best pinball games ever were based on a movie? Addams Family, T2, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Hook, Indiana Jones, the list goes on (Star Trek: Next Gen, Twilight Zone, okay technically based on TV shows).
I realize with video games the problem is usually the developers are rushed to release the game in time for the movie and maybe that's not the case with pinballs but could it be something a little more cerebral? I would argue that because pinball games don't actually recreate scenes from the shows (except in very erudite ways) and instead capture the essence of the franchise, that better explains this difference.

You can even expand this to consoles. You ever heard of a movie based game being on yearly top 10 lists? Ever?

Movie based vids suck. I can't think of a single good one.

Movie based pins are like a hot chick wearing baggy sweats. Once you get past the clothes...

Oh, and no one better mention Tron. The cab is great but the game was a rushed, incomplete mess. Even the designers admit to that.

someone local kept calling me about a robocop pin, trouble is it needed a flipper rebuild and the wanted waaaaaaaaaaaaay to much for it 2500!!!!!

have you played maverick?

Off the top of my head I can think of a couple: Willow (NES) (the arcade version was pretty damn good as well) and Goldeneye (N64).

But yeah, 99.9% of the time, movie-licensed vids BLOW.

Easily pinball takes it. They get the good artwork and the good sounds, drop it on a playfield and there you have it!

The entire video game need to be created from the general idea of the movie. Artwork is compromised, sounds are distorted (BITD) and game play usually has nothing to do with the movie.

I did like War Games on the Coleco, though...

Most newer movie or show based pins suck IMHO. I grieve and long for the days of original themes to come back .... but alas those days are long gone. Stern chooses to keep creators trapped in a 6"x6" creative box.

Sadly, while the game play might be decent, a lot of the themes are horribly lame. Let's face it, what fun is a girlfriend/wife when she's fun to play with but you can't stand to look at her? Ya can't play pinball with no lights on. :D
