Mouse Trap: one of my most wanted games checked off the list

Always liked playing in mame, but frustrated by trying to remember which button was for which color, so now I don't have to worry about that anymore. I was contacted by a local guy via vaps who has had the game for a long time and wanted to get rid of it due to lack of use.

The cab is actually semi-falling apart, which worried me as we moved it - was just hoping it wouldn't fall apart on me! But on close inspection it isn't anything significant. The staples just aren't holding well so it's easy to repair. However, I did worry whether or not it would be working when I got home due to how rickety it was. I got one game in and now it's not booting up for me, but I'm sure I can get that resolved.

Anyway, here are the pics!

You need to erase that one on you wtb list! Awesome cab man congrats! It's always nice to get a game you've been wanting.

I always liked the color coded 3 button gate selector setup. And the power to control your metamorphisis. Mousetrap was not just another pac man imitation.

Nice score, Shanman! It does look really clean, nice sideart and the bezel looks good. It's nice to pick up a game you're looking for locally, even though road trips can be fun... Your game room is gonna be awesome!

Sweet game, I miss playing mine. I should fix it, btw, if you have any kids they will love this game. They always made a bee-line for mine, must have been the big colored buttons.

Nice game...Been wanting to get one of these eventually; hard to game to find in decent condition. Mousetrap>Pacman!

Yeah, my son used to like playing it in mame as well, but like me, I think he got frustrated with trying to remember which button to press for which color, and got tired of playing it for that reason.

Congrats on the find! Definitely a cool looking game. It isn't one you seem to see very often.

Haven't seen that one in a long time. I used to play it on ColecoVision and loved it. When I finally saw one "in the wild" I couldn't wait to play it. Saying I got my ass kicked would be an understatement... The hawk was way tougher and more frequent in the arcade version.

Does it feel odd/hard to play this since the layout is basically backwards from the traditional layout of the joystick on the left?

No way man, maze games should always have joystick on right. Think Rally-X, Wizard of Wor,etc.. Only button mashers need your "good" hand for the buttons.

Would be nice if the buttons were a little smaller so they could be closer together. I don't mind the right handed joystick though.

Cool cabinet. I too played it on Colecovision all the time BITD. Is it me, or does that bezel look like the game should be vertical?

I'm left handed, but it still feels odd to me to switch hands like that after playing so many games the other way.
