Mouse contamination, how much is too much ?

My first thought was "mouse pee and turds, no biggie". I removed the monitor, main board and AR-2 boards and saw how bad it was and put it back together and decided to think it over. Waited about a week and decided to give it another go. Took the same parts plus the transformer brick out, started to take off the panels, and balked again. I have dealt with some pretty funky games but this one just seems a little too nasty too deal with. It's not a keeper for me and I know I could not fix it up and sell it to someone and feel right about it. I could pass it on to someone else that wanted to save it but it's pretty saturated.

Never again...

I worked on a cocktail that was home to some mice. The inside bottom was covered in urine and little mouse droppings. I figured no biggie... I cleaned it really good, sanded the bottom of the cab, repaired everything. It looked fantastic... Shortly after I developed severe muscle cramps in my neck, headaches, sore joints and a good cough.

I didn't get whatever it was officially diagnosed but it got to me enough to do some research on WebMD and the like. The symptoms were very similar to the Hantavirus.

I thought to myself what a stupid way to die... fixing and arcade game and getting some disease.

Never again...

I picked up a Ms Pac cocktail years ago that was nasty in the bottom like that. I vacuumed it out and scrubbed the plywood with Pine Sol and it cleaned up nice. I doubt I'd go through that again. I think my rule now would be - if I can knock the panel out and replace it with new, then I would. If not, part it out.
