Hey guys-

I sent someone a pm about this but I figured I should run it past the rest of the pros here as well.

I am going to be recapping a Motorola XM501 (Stunt Cycle) using the Bob Roberts "XM501/701" cap kit. I also have another one to do (Fire Truck) but it's a 702. There are some slight variations in layout, but they appear pretty similar.

Does the 501/701 cap kit cover the 702? Bob didn't know.

Thanks everyone...

If I remember correctly, the x01 capkits work fine on the x02 chassis. I've done a couple Sprint 2 monitors, Sea Wolf, etc, and I don't rmember using anything other than the x01 capkits.

LOL.. I just asked the same questions to Bob as you did as iam going through the same identical cap repair. But my 702 is out of a Chicago Coin's 'Demolition Derby". I have another 702 that came out of a Midway Gun Fight. I Looked at the 501/701 kits and here is what i found in comparison to the 702 chassis.
My 702 doesnt appear to have caps a location C36, C50, and C51 which two of these are of the Axial type. These are provided in the Bob Roberts 501/701 kit however.
The C24 cap also provided in the kit is of lower voltage rating than whats actually on my chassis. So i dont think your supose to use caps that are of lower voltage than what is recommended.
The remaining caps in the kit appear that they will work and i guess you just omit the extra caps since there is no location specified for them.

Correct - never use a lower voltage. Same capacitance, same or HIGHER voltage.

The short answer is yes the 501/701 Bob Roberts cap kit will also cover the 702 but you will omit caps at C16, C50 and C51. The caps at C50 and C51 are underneath the metal chassis pan and the ones given in the BR cap kit are for the audio amp section of the chassis which the 702 does not have like the 501 and 701. So they will simply be omited. 6 caps will be replaced in total.

Has anyone found the bottlecap transistors on an XM702 at Q9, Q13 and Q16? Mine are well rusted and should be replaced but I can't seem to find replacements.
I believe they are:
Q9: B2L 7539
Q13: A1C 7549
Q16: A8W 7926

Please correct me if my numbers aren't right. As I said they're rust covered so not very readable and the manual is not 702 specific.

I found this in my notes from when I worked on my Sprint 2 a few years ago.
Hopefully it will help. I'm not sure what the second transistor is referring to.

Motorola xm701
Check Q13 - vert output
Motorola # A1C
= 2N5151= MJ3029
Nte replacement = nte283

B2v 7626 = 48s137596
Nte replacement = nte162

I am thinking the bottlecap transistors for the 701 are not the same as with the 702. Reason being I did look them up in the 501/701 manual and they aren't matching the numbers of what are currently installed in the 702. At least the two on the right that I can read through the rust.

As for the 1st and only transistor on the furthermost left, I have no idea what it is. But honestly, it should be replace with this much rust.

With this much corrosion I'd be afraid to attempt powerup with those transistors in there.

I have an Atari X & O's football and the chassis isn't marked, are these the same montiors in the Atari football?

I think, in my limited experience that the two/701 vs 702 are fairly distinguishable in that the 702 has less frame mounted components.
This is a 702:
