What do you do to give yourself a kick in the ass to finish your games?

When I finish one, then I can start on another... however that doesn't always work because I start another one before I finish the one I am working on...

It is a vicious cycle.

Usually if I am fixing up a game for a confirmed buyer, then I give that game priority.

Usually having some people over is motivation for me to finish anything left undone. Unfortunately I don't always get the last minute touches done even then.

Still looking for a good motivator myself.

Jelousy of other peoples stuff helps too ...

We're suppose to finish?

Actually, the best rule for me to follow is:

DO ALL OF THE COSMETIC RESTORATION BEFORE YOU FIX ANYTHING! THEN FIX ALL THE LIGHTS FIRST!

Reason? If you fix it first, then you'll start playing it, and you'll never get everything else fixed...

Haha, true that. I got a very filthy VO with a broken marquee light and said I was going to fix it up immediately. About three days and 500 games later, I replaced the bulb, and about a year later I finally took a magic eraser to it ;)

What he said I always get the game working first then just let them sit there half finished forever. It also doesn't help that it constantly rains here just enough to make it to humid to paint that or its just way to hot to work outside. Or if either of those 2 isn't the case I had something that eats up my time and daylight ours to work on games like work or hanging out with friends LOL. so If I just eliminated those 2 I would have plenty of time to finish my games.:D

Great advice.

I call baloney on the whole thread.

Yeah, it's a pain not having them all running, but we don't buy all this broken shit because we just have to have them all working. Doing the resto is half, if not more of the fun.

I don't stress about not having them "done". I let the motivation come. If they sit for a year, fine. It's not like I just sit around on my butt when I'm not working on games!

Yeah,Mod's advice on this can't be beat.

My motivation is seeing all the great restorations done by guys like Gregatron,Phet,Cadillacman, and Spyridon just to name a few.The magic these guys and many others perform on busted up games is just awe inspiring.

I've seen some games that looked like they were pulled straight out of a dumpster and after restored they looked like they had just rolled off the assembly line.

Not only that, but seeing these restored games often makes me really want one. It's a vicious but enjoyable cycle.:D

+1 ! love seeing the restored product or should i say preserved product ?

Combination of whats been said here - having people over (hard to say it doesnt work for the 100th time), seeing others fully working game rooms. And ALWAYS focus on the comestic first - great advice there.

I would much rather have a playable game that could use some work than a broken one that may or may not be finished soon. My Millipede needs a CPO and Marquee, but I still get to play it until I get around to buying and installing the art.

Mostly seeing other people's stuff, playing some games (I had a LOT of motivation after CAX last year), and most of all... AVOIDING these forums! Every hour I spend here is an hour I could be spending on my arcades :p .
