Most underrated pins?

since i started a thread on its scoring lately, i feel as though i have to mention starship troopers among the "that's a shitty pin, but it's fun as hell to play" category. it's cool...it's fun...nobody wants it...so you can find it cheap and have a ton of fun with it.

I agree. Starship Troopers is kinda like a fat chick or a moped: a lot of fun until your friends find out.

lol. well played.

SST is a fun pin, IMO.....and very, very difficult scoring. that's why i'm not overly jazzed to get rid of it for the new transformers pin. but..............i'm reluctantly willing.

(i need the money ;) )

never played avatar....never even seen one (we don't have much in the way of routed pins in my area).

looks cool though....and i enjoyed the movie.

the theatre near me got one a few months ago.i try to stop in and play it a couple times a month.hope someone puts a tron on route near me soon.

Some of these have already been said, but there's no harm in reiterating.

Big Guns - a game that anyone can put a quarter into (though most just keep walking by) and have fun playing. Definitely one of the most underrated System 11 games.

Class of 1812 - a Gottlieb SS -- so it's often overlooked -- but this thing feels like it's Bally-made and is one of the best times you'll have playing a pin.

Tommy - for the life of me I don't understand why this pin isn't more sought after. One I'm hunting for. Tough, but fun and a good example of a music-based game that doesn't get old.

Flash Gordon - this pin defines fun + great theme to me. A classic Bally that's tough.

:)

I fear you're going to end up with the same people saying, "Oh lot's of people talk about it, it's a highly sought after title therfore not under rated" because very much like Funhouse it is one of the more popular Williams games. I assume "most under rated" is supposed to be meant in the context of "not spoken of often" instead of best bang for the buck.
So if that's the case then I guess that makes us both wrong.

Yeah, I have to admit it's just from my own personal experience, which doesn't include a lot of pinball collectors. The ones I hear your average joes talk about are, Twighlight Zone, Adams Family, Funhouse, etc. It's actually really cool to see the collectors like Whitewater. I'm going up to Smith Mountain Lake (Virginia) this weekend and, supposedly, they have one there. I saw a picture on the website and I'm crossing my fingers that it works. My buddy and I went up to a laundry mat in College Park MD on Memorial Day for the sole purpose of playing Taxi and it was out of order.

Underrated

Few Bally/Williams pins are underrated as they are the most popular with collectors. Johny Mnemonic is definitely an exception to that rule! One of the fastest playing, most challenging pins made! Unfortunately, forever linked to a bad movie.

Sega pins generally get a bad rap but have some great titles! Starship Troopers and Twister are both very underrated, highly entertaining pins!

Data East made some very good pins that don't get much respect. Back to the Future, Hook, Maverick and Phantom of the Opera are great pins that can usually be had on the cheap!

Gottlieb is my favorite when looking for bargain pins! Wipe Out is one of my favorites and WILL NOT be leaving my collection! Other great Gottliebs include Cactus Jack's, Class of 1812, Lights...Camera...Action!, Operation Thunder, Stargate, Super Mario Bros and Surf N' Safari.

Some pins just lose out because of the gawd awful $400 DMD (if it goes out that is). It's not like you can tell the seller, "Hey that DMD appears to be original and if that goes out it's $400 so you need to drop your price $400".

However for Data East let me add to the list. Tales From the Crypt, Last Action Hero and Tommy.
Yes, Last Action Hero's art isn't pretty but I will swear to anyone that machine is just awesome for a budget pin. It has 3 magnets, 13 regular modes, 2 combo shots and several other ways to increase points and a pf that is flat out "kick your ass" brutal. Sloppy shots are not tolerated well and nudging is a must to eliminate lane drain. In a couple ways this machine offers more than current pins. Data East really made some killer titles.

Ripley's Believe It Or Not. Very deep, tons of variety and damn near impossible to master or get the wizard mode of Atlantis. It is one of those titles that people play a couple of times, get their asses kicked, can't figure it out, and then say "that game sucks." It is a top 5 Stern IMO. It is leagues above and beyond what Stern is putting out nowadays and it can be had for half the price of the new stuff.

Lw3

My vote will go for lethal weapon 3. I like that pin a lot. I will keep that one for a long time to come.

Data East made some great games! Batman and Star Wars are very fun, for sure!

Batman Forever is on my future list.

I'm in a nearby league at a great arcade with a lot of titles.

Starship Troopers gets love.

Whitewater gets some love.

Roadshow and Funhouse, people don't seem to get excited for those. Probably more love for Funhouse, but Roadshow seems low on the love list (not as much dislike as Avatar.)
I dig funhoue, personally. Who Dunnit gets love, Cirquis Voltaire is climbing. IJ doesn't get picked much, The Shadow gets some. Not much love for King of Diamons retropin. The Johnny Mnemonic has issues, so that one might get more love once the hand moves fully and some other small fixes.

Personally my surprise was Doctor Who. Bought it for the Scifi theme, not knowing much about it. Won't let it go. A lot of people like Bram Strokers Dracula, but personally I don't connect with it.
