most underrated pinball

Yea, it's possible that it's one of those games you have to play a bit to appreciate. I did like having another button for a third flipper but it just seemed so bizarre every time I played it I felt like someone broke something on the playfield and attached whatever would fit.

I think SST can grow on you. I first played it in a local league, so I played it pretty regularly over a year+. It became one of my favorite games. Then again, from that same league, I found I liked the Flinstones and Demo Man, and didn't like Stargate or Breakshot...

Genesis is another one. If it weren't for the backglass, it might be a semi-classic. The theme is decent, but the artwork is a little repulsive.

The gameplay, however, is great. You can usually find them cheap (I'm still looking for one!)

I'll throw this one out there because I just got done cleaning and selling one and I got some time to play it: LW3. These are often overlooked and can often be picked up cheaply considering it is a a DMD pin. Yeah, the theme is kind of out there, but the actual game is pretty cool. It isn't extremely challenging for skilled player, but it has cool shots and the layout is good IMHO. Also, with the updated ROMs the annoying Joe Pesci quotes are gone and you get to chose the background music during the game. Mel Gibson's behavior hasn't done the game any favors in the last few years, that's for sure.

I have to agree with you, I just put a Lethal Weapon 3 in my game room and I love it(bought it from a fellow KLOVer). Being a fan of the movies make it that much better of course :) I like how it's a nice fluid motion pin, not a lot of stop and go's. And everything else that interacts while you're playing make it worth the purchase. The fist fight scenes, having to grab and fire the gun during game play, a lot to keep you busy. It has seen a lot of play in my home.

Another I'll throw into the mix is Party Zone. People either love it or hate it, I think the cab is done up very well, a lot of bright colors to it. Playfield is a little more challenging than other pins. You can't be a flipper whacker and play this, the way everything is set in the playfield, if you hit too hard, you'll drain the ball every time. I like the challenges it provides.

Both of these pins sitting side by side, play so different from each other, and that's a great thing when you're limited on room.

My vote goes to DE Last Action Hero, of course, it is the only pin I currently own. Sure the theme is lacking, and so did the movie for the most part, but it has a bunch of modes, cool shots, magnets, a shaker and 6 ball multi. It even has a decent skill shot even though I would prefer a plunger.
It's a keeper for me.

And yes I am an Arnold fan! "Get to the CHOPPER!!!!!!!!!!!"

I find that many DE games have nice layouts and a good range of modes. They generally tend to be underrated IMO.

LAH is a really good game in my opinon too. Got a good deal on it and really did not like the theme at first. Hate the backglass. That being said the game play is really fun. Toys (crane), kicker, captive balls, scoops, shaker, drop targets and a spinner. Sound and animation leave a little to be desired. Would not be my first pick, but I was suprised by the game play.
Also just picked up a TFTC and it might be my new favorite pin. It has a solid rating, but the game play is just great for a pin that price. For the record I like DE games and don't mind the art. There is a difference in the way the game feels compared to a Bally or Williams, but I can over look that since I am use to it. I too think that a lot of Data East games get a bad rap, but to each there own.

How about an Alvin G "Pistol Poker" pinball. very small production run, and wood grain playfield, even a DMD. A very cool and fun pin to play. Probably one of the best card theme pin's out there.

i agree with the guy who said genesis was underated. i didnt know what to think when i saw the backglass artwork........(if your unfamiliar with this game LOOK UP THE BACKGLASS!) this game was really fun to play especially when you got used to it and knew what to do. i sold mine a few years ago and last year at the york pinball show i saw one set on free play and i jumped at the chance to play it again!

Roller Coaster Tycoon is underrated- A great lawlor game that will be a low numbered classic soon.

Pins- The Addams Family, Roller Coaster Tycoon, Monopoly, Haunted House, Space Shuttle, Bounty Hunter, Bally Star Trek

Video- NFL Blitz 2000

I am hoping "Apollo 13" as I am planning on getting a very nice one on Sunday. It will be my first DMD pin. I know I will like it as I love the space program.

Terminator 2 is one i really love. Easy multiball and obtainable 3 different ways, pitty ball timer, ball save pin, kickback lane, cannon is fun.. It just has all the little things that I enjoy and its a fast table. not a very deep game but it's still very fun to play imo.

Played T2 a lot in a league. Not a fan. The multiball and scoring are too dependent on the cannon, and aiming the cannon is NOT a pinball skill! (I have the same gripe about Black Rose.) OTOH, I think T3 is a great game with lots of challenging shots, and is underrated.

Why is shooting the cannon not a pinball skill? I look at it different. It's a new kind of skill to the pinball world. Unfortunetly some die hard pinball players are not too susceptible to change. Getting the super jackpot takes quite a bit of skill actually. Juggling one ball in play, while shooting the cannon at a moving target. Maybe it's just not a skill that the die hards are good at.. hmmm

Been playing pinball for 4 decades+. EVERY pinball game I've played (apart from the bagatelles of my youth) are based on flipper skills, and usually some (minor) plunger skill. Flippers are here to stay, along with some auxiliary scoring/pf features like pops, ramps, spinners.... The cannon is a 1-off toy (OK, there was a similar one in STTNG, and maybe Dirty Harry?) that is too critical to overall scoring--takes much of the scoring opportunity away from the flipper skills. It's not a "new kind of skill" b ut a 1-off novelty, like the cannon in Black Rose.

And who says "die hards" (whatever that means) aren't good at T2?
