most overrated pinball

You all make me cry, but I am realistic in the understanding that I am lucky to have the pins I have. I strive every hour by checking Cl to have better machines.

I pretty much agree with pinbot. It is not much of a game, but popular and populous, so it is part of the scene. Still really nice to have a really good one :)

Seems these threads come up often. Price twists it to skew, but we all can agree that any pin can bring tons of joy. The really cool ones are out of reach for many of us, although they are overrated, they are still great machines.

Pinball fricking rules.

guess i will see you at the arcade!,

ill be there helping darren(yes there are 2 darrens) thursday

Is that when it opens? I'm sure I'll stop by and see it, but I rarely spend money playing games "in the wild" anymore, since I have plenty at home...

My opinion is TZ and MM. I've played both, and don't understand all the hoopla over them.

TZ is ok, at best. Cramped playfield and flow is not the best.

MM is fun, but nowhere near as fun as most make it out to be.

I just don't get why a lot of people get instant erections over those two titles. Somewhat fun, but far from great, IMO. And, especially for the prices they get. $6k+ for a MM? Please... I'd give up to $3k for a VERY nice one, but it's not worth more than that to me. TZ is more like a $1500 game to me.

Just my opinion, folks, and the original poster asked for opinions. :)

Cirqus Voltaire (maybe the prettiest game ever, but overall kinda bland to play)
Tales of the Arabian Nights (way, way too easy)
Theater of Magic (style of substance)
Pirates of the Caribbean (snooze fest that somehow holds its value)

I don't think TZ is overrated at all. It's a great pin with a complicated ruleset - modes can be stacked and it's extremely hard to get to LITZ; the scoring is well-balanced, there's more patents on that machine than any other pinball, and I think there's quite a lot of flow in the game depending upon what you shoot for.

Personally, I think AFM is the most overrated. The classic "fan layout", super-wide-open playfields are little more than a game of "Simon Sez" with lots of repetition.

I love Twilight Zone. It's probably my favorite game ever. But yeah, I can see how someone would totally not connect with the game.

For me, easily, TAF....

Back in my old haunt, there was AFM, Scared Stiff, WH2O, TAF all in a row. (There may have been a TOTAN there too, another I just can't get into)..... Me and a buddy of mine spent a LOT of money on those pins.

The only way we ever played the TAF was if all the others were taken, and even then we would usually wander away and play NFL Blitz, House of the Dead, or one of the other vids.

Another is Whirlwind. I just can't stand those spinning platforms.

MM is the winner. After reading so much praise for the game, it's never lived up to the hype for me. It's a fun game, but not a standout. I think people associate the price/collectibility with fun factor, but it's not necessarily true.

AFM is a well loved game that I've never been crazy about. Easy game to walk away from in favor of something else.

I'm going with Pinbot.....maybe I just don't get it. I can't believe that its actually been ported to the NES and more recently to the Wii, 360 and PS3 by way of the Williams collection. I never got the appeal and find it to be an entirely mediocre game for all of the attention that it gets.

#1 Twilight Zone (Bally,1993) - Not a huge fan, but for the right price would buy it but certainly not on my immediate want list.
#2 The Addams Family (Bally,1992) - love this game for some reason and plan on adding this next.
#3 Indiana Jones: The Pinball Adventure (Williams,1993) Never played it
#4 Star Trek: The Next Generation (Williams,1993) - I think it's fun and for the right price would buy it but certainly not on my immediate want list.
#5 Medieval Madness (Williams,1997) - Cool looking game. I think it's pretty fun but the price tag irks me as it's not mind blowing fun and thus doesn;t justify the stupid price it commands.
#6 Cirqus Voltaire (Bally,1997) - Love the artwork and the originality but not a fan at all of the game play. This one sucks for me.
#7 The Lord of the Rings (Stern,2003) - partially bias as I just bought one. Love it to death and certainly my favorite game.
#8 Theatre of Magic (Bally,1995) - Love the artwork, game play ...ehhhh ....well it gets old reeeeeeaaally quick
#9 Tales of the Arabian Nights (Williams,1996) - Love the artwork, game play ... yet another one that doesn;t trip my trigger at all.
#10 Attack from Mars (Bally,1995) - software and audio package really carry this game. Game play ... pllllwwwwhhh very boring to me.

Sorry to cluster bomb this thread but my point is, I don't really care for most of the top ten. Even if they were commonly $2000 games I still wouldn't be running all over to buy them. The hype (IE IPDB reviews) is mostly responsible for the prices on these games. In my opinion it's unfair. The more games that were produced of course it plain makes sense the more people will be able to play and review.
It doesn;t make these games better than others. It makes them more accesible.

that seems to be the consensus on MM......very, very fun pin, but the prices are just downright stupid.

i tend to agree. i'd LOVE to have one, but i realize i never will. i'll take the $7000 it'll take to snag a nice MM and buy several top notch pins that i can have just as much fun with.

wish it wasn't that way......but it is.
