Hello, I have recently began to install the jamma harness, power supply, etc in my MK that I am restoring and I cannot seem to figure out why it wont power on. I have wired everything identical to how it is in my other MK that was in worse condition except I have not wired the top on off switch as I wanted to use just a surge protector to turn off and on. Now this is probably a stupid question but do I have to have the on off switched wired to make the whole thing turn on? sorry, this is my first complete restoration and install and I am learning as I go.

thanks for any information. I could provide pictures of my wiring if needed

That is usually used to turn the game off and on. You can by-pass that but usually best to leave it there.

My question is, if you are RESTORING that game why would you by pass the switch and put some sloppy wiring to a surge protector probably inside the cab and a fire potential.

Sorry if I sound a bit harsh here but the Restoring and wiring on off switch is kind of asking for it.

If you are restoring it yes put the switch in there and wire it up right. If not just hack a surge protector in there and wait for a fire or some other bad thing to happen.

EDIT:

Post pic of the wiring you have now and I/we will help you put it right. The way it should be.

thanks for your reply. I am working on getting pictures, I do not get a whole lot of time to work on this project. I did wire up the on off switch and I still get no power. All of the power supply and harness came directly from a working machine, All I did was swap them out so I know the power supply and harness is in working order, I am wondering if the subsection power supply/isolation transformer (at least I think this is what its called) is not in working order but again, I am new at this............

Does anything power on? Marquee / Monitor etc?

If yes then the trouble is at your switcher or after... If you get nothing at all then its before that... Have you checked all of your fuses?

Nothing powers on, no marquee or monitor. I will check on the fuses, starting to look like it is my subsection. I got the cabinet with nothing inside so there was no way to test at that point. Thanks for your help

Remember my KI was missing the door. ;) I don't even see a switch anywhere inside the cab tho where it would have been. No extra wires or anything. BTW if KI had it why doesn't my Blitz 99 have 1? I may have to take a look at the blitz again but I'm pretty sure I had it off while the game was on before to adjust my flyback.

donno what to tell you about blitz 99 but here's a picture of my dedicated KI1 (it's on the right just below the plastic wire loom)

my rampage world tour and nba jam don't have one

Oh my bad. I thought you were talking about the back door for some reason. That switch is only for the operator menu and shouldn't stop it from powering on.

correct, sorry i refer to all kill switches / interlocks as the same.

No problem. I got confused because ToplessZ said kill switch on the back door. Question is what MK cab it is? He just says MK so I'm assuming MK1

yea i donno, i have a mk1 in the other room w/ no interlocks at all. I'd definitely like to see what all is going on there with the OP's machine.

Ya me too. That sliding switch is pretty much the same thing for getting in and out of the menu in a way. I've forgot to slide it back over before and says to slide it back to exit the menu.

sorry, just throwing out ideas. I didnt even think about those not having them stock.
but that pesky back door kill switch has awarded me many machines on the cheap that were "non working" hehehe

lol i hate putting mk/jam boards in my test cabinet and having to hold the test button down to stay in the menu.

guess we'll all just have to wait on the photos

no apologies needed

Strange, it should be a sliding switch for the menu and not a push button. I'll take a pic of mine later which is unaltered. May help you and him out. Gotta go.
