Hey There,

I completely restore an old mortal kombat cab I bought from Kijiji, the poor thing had been converted into some sort of generic Tekken cab and had another unrelated game in it, it was an awful job by whoever had this game in the wild. restored it completely from A to Z, and the cab now looks stunning (I've attached a picture) and as good as new. I ordered a board set from ebay from a trusted source (or so I thought)

I plugged everything in, added the -5v wire; tested it with my yuton test jamma board, everything comes back fine. I plugged in the MK board, and ..

No sound. The sound test gives me an NO SOUND IRQ error detected. The game runs fine outside of that, i was even able to complete it. Sadly, when I got the game, some of the pins had been bent. I had to straighten them out to be able to fit the kick harness.

So to makes things clear

1) This is a Mortal Kombat 1 board; version 2.0
2) the -5v line works. I tested it with my UMK3 board I keep around
3) the sound pot was soldered on, but i doubt that could cause a problem
4) the power supply is one of those switching supplies..but there doesnt seems like there is a way to adjust anything! (http://www.arcadejoe.com/images/20a-switching-ps.jpg)

I'm out of options, and I don't want to go to war with the ebay seller over this. I have included a picture of the soundboard.

Thanks in advance.

I like the MK cab! I've got one I'm restoring myself and right now I mainly either have to buy a new control panel or maybe attempt some bondo repair because the thing has a huge hole cut for a trackball. Ughh....

Anyway, it looks like you have all your cables (sound power, volume pot, and ribbon). One thing to check; the ribbon cable has a red stripe on one side of it. That indicates which side is pin 1 and that must go to pin 1 on the sound board and main board (they are labled). I believe the sound IRQ error is related to the ribbon cable, but I'm not sure.

I've just checked with another set of power cables and ribbon cables (from my nba jam set) and the test mode still reports the same, NO SOUND IRQ DETECTED

This really sucks..

my MK2 board sporadically and randomly went on the fritz one night, it has a different sound board though, yours is like an NBA Jam one, MK2 had the DCS, not the Yamaha sound chip. but anyway, after going through with checking voltages and making sure cables were seated right and all that nonsense, it turned out my "NO SOUND IRQ DETECTED" problem was caused by the roms.

yes, reseating the roms fixed it. so, I'd at least check that first. I think the sound board has an LED light too right? (my MK boards are installed on little shelves for a multi-JAMMA project I never finished)

for fun, check the voltage at the sound board. I can't remember which color wires (I don't think they were the regular red and black, though I could be wrong... that was like 14 months ago since I messed with it) but if you check the manual (here) it'll give you a pinout. :)
