I have swapped in 2 different k7000 monitors into my Mortal Kombat cab, and they are both darker on one side of the monitor. If I recap the monitor will this fix the problem???

I assume you are talking left to right it goes from like light to dark.

if so yeah, recapping should fix it. unless your cab is possessed like my one with MK4 where it's mysteriously brighter at the top than everything else. :) (and my problem isn't limited to any one monitor, it does it with any!)

mecha how many mk problems do you have?? LOL seems every time someone needs help your cabinet has either the same problem or something weirder

lol, yeah I had a guy that I bought stuff from I just asked him if he had any extra Midway style cabs and he brings by one that was a converted Zombie Revenge... it was a War Gods cab. aside from the Polo monitor in it being the spawn of satan, any other monitor I drop in it has about an inch of bright spot (best I can come up with for a name) along the top. it did it on 2 different Wells U5000s and even did it on the Polo after Chad fixed it (which also yielded retrace lines).

but previous to that when I was breaking into the hobby to get away from all the redemption machines at our place, I swapped probably 12 different games into my KI cab before I eventually finished restoring it. 4 of them were MKs, and between reseating roms or fixing broken wires or whatever else, there's a lot of experience to be acquired through all that.

with old age comes wisdom, I can resolve most of the problems myself now.

--- end rant---

I find it particularly strange that OP has 2 different K7000s that are darker on one side than the other. are you sure the tube doesn't have any massive burn-in?

was this something you bought in this condition or did it become this way?

mecha - remember that darker on one side than the other is a very common symptom of bad caps. Especially if it's darker on the left than it is on the right. I see this a lot.

well that's what I said, he asked if caps would fix it, I said yes. :)

I've personally never seen it before, except on a monitor for one of our redemption games that was recapped wrong (and subsequently fried the CRT, cause it was so bad).

cool thank you, yeah both monitors have the same problem, darker on the left side and actually nice on the right side... just ordered some cap kits... thank you!!!

they're relatively easy to work on, hardest part with K7000 is probably scraping the old glue off where the caps are to see which cap it is cause the number's covered lol

luckily there's cap maps available online for that sort of thing, but I always draw my own.

what color are the knobs on your flybacks? if they're white, replace them, trust me. mine went out of the blue last month and put a hole in my K7000 about an inch big around.

I still need to figure out what's caused my faint jailbars on the left side of the screen on 3 of my K7000. I've replaced all caps including the big filter cap. The only ones I haven't done are the non-polarized caps c 1, c2, c3, and I think c4. I know someone (maybe it was Retro Hacker) mentioned those 4 caps are part of the video output stage. I'm wondering if it's possible for those to be a part of the problem.

I have the same problem with mine, lol. I think mine might have more to do with all the patchwork I had to do at C36, since that's the "retrace" cap. I actually had just 1 bar before blowing my K7000 up, now after fixing and capping it, I have 3.

I can live with that though, I have that thing tuned flawlessly now. :)

I have the same thing on my 7191

I replaced all the caps, plugged it in, the colors were beautiful... couple minutes later while adjusting the vertical, i hear cracking and look at the chassis and smoke was coming from around where the big cap is on the upper right section of the chassis... and nothing but a horizontal line thru the middle of the sceen... what do I do to fix it... nothing looks blown...
