Hey everyone!

I was thinking about purchasing a MK board off ebay but, was wondering if anyone had any advice about these boards? For instance, I noticed they have a seperate sound board and something about a special volume pot. There are a few auctions online. Most of the ones I am looking at read something like: used, working, tested, all roms are green in testing, sound board included but no volume pot.
Normally they're selling for around $75+

So is there anything else I should be aware of before buying? Of course, if someone from the forum wants to part ways with one I would much rather buy it from you lol!

Thanks!!

The volume pot is a potentiometer and you'll need one for the sound board to operate. There are two cables required also from the main board to the soundboard. One is the power and speaker cable standard wire type and the other is the ribbon cable (data cable) 20 pin which looks like an IDE cable. You will need all these parts for the sound board to operate properly. Lastly, you will also need a 12 pin housing connector (think it's 12) for the kick harness to operate low kick and low punch. The condition of the hardware is largely based on the sellers descriptions. There are other considerations, like your PSU output being at the correct value, etc, but these are only considered if you need to trouble shoot. These parts can be obtained from members etc if not supplied in the auction.Hope this helps, it's basic but a starting point.

Some people I know like to try and get a bootleg board since it's all contained in one board. I dunno the quality though if there's any gameplay issues or anything.

@the above, echo.

Also do you have a cabinet with a monitor that can sync at 54Hz? If you don't, no point in trying to run MK series boards...

There is a sound power harness and a 50Kohm potentiometer that controls the sound. There are 3 connections on the sound board. 2 are for the power harness that hooks between the sound board and main board and 1 is for the sound pot connection. You also need a 20 pin ribbon cable to exchange the data between the sound board and main board. I believe "The Real Bob Roberts" sells all the cables and sound pot.

Never met a 15Khz CRT that couldn't.

Some of the Japanese Candy cabs have monitors that won't. I had an SNK Candy 25 that wouldn't sync to any MK, no matter how much you adjusted it or begged or even said prayers. Close but no go. U.S. monitors seem to have somewhat wider tolerances.

Ah. Fair enough.

I also sell the volume pots w/ harness if you don't like dealing with bob.
