My cousins own a Mortal Kombat II arcade machine. One day after attempting to use a special modification to connect a computer monitor to it, they turned it on and found that the screen was distorted. They thought the colors needed to be calibrated but this did not help at all. it turns out that when the machine tries to display red, it displays green, when it tries to display green it is blue, and when it tries to display blue, it displays red (I think). After reading other posts and the service manual, I believe that the graphics controller (JAMMA?) connector is broken/connected wrong. I also think that if this isn't the problem, we can swap the red signal output to go to blue, the green signal to go to red, and blue to go to green. Does this all sound about right?

update: when I said the picture is distorted, I actually meant the picture is fine but the colors are wrong.
update: they put everything back the way it was originally after trying the modification

Most likely the previous owner has flipped/changed the yoke harness connector to the monitor PCB.

The yoke connector will have nothing to do with the colors being wrong.

Sounds like you have your video input wires routed to the wrong pins...

Now that sounds better! the yoke harness sounded more like v and h control to me. as I said in my original post, "I also think that if this isn't the problem, we can swap the red signal output to go to blue, the green signal to go to red, and blue to go to green." does this sound about right? I wasn't the one who messed with the connectors/knobs/JAMMA connector nor do I even live in the house the machine exists at. I was at the house because of a christmas party and they told me the color was messed up so I decided to look into it.

1) Figure out EXACTLY which monitor they are trying to make it work with NOW.

2) Make sure that any "modifications" are either done or undone as is warranted.

3) Make sure that the red goes to red, blue to blue, etc as required by that monitor type....

Yep - lol. Sorry bout that. Meant to say video input harness not yoke harness. Thanks for the catch Mod.

Deadly: I had a moment there reading your first post where I was like "shit........... maybe I'm wrong?"

:)

I think they are using the original monitor, the mod has been disconnected, and I will ask them to check the color signal wires. I think the confirmation of my thoughts of swapping the color signals will work is enough of a fix even if there is some other underlying problem. thank you all for your help.
