Mortal Kombat II 2 Loud Unholy Blast of Sound / Noise WTF?

Hi folks.

My MK2 dedicated usually works reasonably well now that I have the monitor sync issues ironed out (thanks to you guys helping). Still haven't done the cosmetic work on it, one day I'll finish that and post pics. But a new problem came up:

Roughly once a day, the game erupts in an unbelievably horrible blast of random distorted sound. It goes on until we power down and back up, and then it's fine again. Anyone ever heard of this? What do I do?

- Sound board wiring is all newly done, in theory should be primo but I suppose it's possible I made a bad cable?
- Voltage is +5.27 -5.20 at the JAMMA in and +5.23 -5.20 at the sound board harness input. Adjusted with guidance from you guys.
- With higher voltage we never got the distortion thing but we did get a BONG and then silence until reboot, roughly once a day.
- Volume is set relatively low and normal sound is normal when it's not opening a gateway directly to Satan's larynx.
- All sound tests and config options come up fine.

Is MKII just this bad? I never, NEVER have these kinds of issues with Capcom or Sega or Taito hardware, and Neo Geo even at its most finicky isn't as touchy as this has been.

Any ideas or help at all would be gratefully welcomed. Thanks!!

I'd just remove all the socketed chips on the sound board, clean them, and then replace them. I've got one I have on every day four hours, and it doesn't do anything like that. The Midway stuff is usually pretty reliable.
