I have a mortal kombat project I've been working on
and I'm having a problem with the wiring.
Everything is hooked up and working but when I use the two player side I credit up and go to the character screen. Right after that the computer is auto picking for me.
I'm not sure why. It only does this on the second player not the 1st. Any body help me

check all your microswitches on player 2's buttons.

make sure the grounds are going to the bottom terminals that say "COM" (for Common) and that all of the input wires are hooked up to the "NO" (Normally Open) terminals. if any are connected to "NC", this will more than likely be the cause.

other areas to check are that none of the switches are stuck. I've had a few games over the years that had pop/soda/coke/whateveryoucallit gunked up in the switch and it was stuck down. I've had success cleaning these in a pinch with regular Windex and a toothbrush, but for how cheap these switches are, you're probably better off buying all new ones.

the final cause, which I think is unlikely, but then again I don't know how the input ICs are arranged, is that the input chip on the game board that controls player 2's inputs could be bad.

try these, good luck.

helpful tip, maybe, is to go into Test Mode -> Diagnostics -> Switch Test. permitting the offending button doesn't automatically start picking menus for you, if you can get to this screen, whatever button is solidly lit up in the switch test will be the one to check.
