wasn't sure which section to post this in. clearly we get questions all the time about these games, and the newbies are usually the ones asking.

I figured it was a good idea to start a guide for them. if anyone has suggestions for things to add, let me know.

let me know what you think too. I might start a repair log on my site too, since I do tech things daily at work, we'll see.

Also: The t-unit and the y-unit boards actually have a different sound ribbon! I found that out during my incredible quest for a working sound board (as you may remember). I was lucky the T-unit board set i got had his own cable included.

talking about different lengths? I was wondering why I had 1 super long one and the rest were short ones. (1 T-unit game vs. 3 Y-units)

shouldn't really matter though, I should probably mention that if you ever get stiffed on one of those cables that you can get away with using a 40-pin computer IDE cable too. :D (thanks to whoever suggested that one here)

preferably of the un-keyed variety, but you have just enough open pins on one side of the key to make it work if that's all you have. just means you have to pay more attention to the placement of the stripe on the cable, or make note of what side the nub is on. if you wanna get real fancy, you can cut the excess wiring with a razor blade (people used to do "round IDE cable" mods like this back in the day) and if lucky you can dremel off the extra pins and voila, another sound board cable.
