Ok. I started talking about this in another thread seen here...

http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=236571&highlight=extra+monitor

For Mortal Kombat's 20th Anniversary, I wanted to do a project to give the game homage from back in it's heyday. I wanted to mount an Auxilliary monitor on top like they used to when it was so popular, no one could see the cab's monitor and therefor couldn't see the action.

So, I finally got around to starting the project. All I have left to do it paint the box, get some plexi to mount on the front, mount the box on top of the cab and splice in the video lines. Her are some preliminary pics. Off to get the paint and the plexi now...

That is going to be awesome. I never saw one in the arcades that had another monitor on top of it so I cannot wait to see how this turns out. Great idea sir.

I remember that original thread.. nice to see this become a reality.

Did you have to amplify the signal, or are you just splicing into the video lines as they are? Either way I can't wait to see it complete.

Only game I ever saw in the arcades with an extra monitor was Dragon's Lair. I remember the crowds around that game when it came out. Pretty neat idea, can't wait to see how it comes out.

Progress report. Only thing left is to splice in the video wires and power wires and fire this puppy up. On a side note..THIS THING IS HEAVY!! It's almost as heavy as the damn cab. I'm not even going to attempt to try and get it on the cab without help. Anyway, here are some pics...

I have to mount the top monitor from behind and slide it forward because it's only 1/2" from the ceiling and can't be put on top of the cab from any other direction.

This totally sucked worse than expected but....it's all done. I'll upload a video of the action soon. I gotta take a break. my back is killing me. There is some interference in the video of the top monitor and none in the bottom, but that's to be expected when splicing into the video lines. Won't bother me because I'm not going to be watching the top monitor.

What I did was simply splice into the cab's monitor power wires for the top monitor power and piggybacked off the video wires to supply a video signal. I did NOT have to adjust the brightness or anything on the bottom monitor. Only the top one.

Here are the final pics. Like I said, I'll upload a video of it in action later. Happy 20th Anniversary Mortal Kombat!

Looks cool... but where's the crowd, so the extra monitor is needed? ;)

This is cool. Glad it worked. I have a golden t with a spot for a extra monitor that I want to do something like this with. Now I know it will work.

Did it get a separate isolation transformer or did you run it off the same one from the MK cabinet?
