Mortal Kombat best Rev? Y-Unit/T-Unit

I know there's a few differences between the revs like Reptile clues, and the ability to use the block button during a fatality and still fight Reptile, but is there a best rev to get? I'm guessing 5.0 the latest rev is probably best but maybe not?

can you put 5.0 roms on a Y-Unit board? I know 4.0 and up came out on T-Unit

and to clarify the Y-Unit cannot use Turbo Ninja roms? you gotta use Ninja Roms 3.1?

Okay, I'm done sulking.

Y-Unit is considered by many to be a more stable board, has less power issues (5 volt for example). It has a different kick harness, and if you are doing a Multi-MK project it will make your life hell.

T-Unit not as stable (many say), if the 5 volt rail is slightly off it is a bitch. But has the same kick harness as the other MK's and makes life easy when doing a multi MK.

Revisions history...as far as I know:

Y-Unit
Y-Unit 1.0
Y-Unit 2.0
Y-Unit 3.0
T-Unit 4.0
Y-Unit 4.0 + T-Unit 5.0 They are the same version effectively.

The only difference I really can think of off the top of my head between Y4.0 and T5.0 is the Sub Zero freeze while blocking glitch. You can use block with Sonya on fatalities. It will NOT work if you use block with Liu Kang or Scorpion (at least that is my experience). Oh and not sure but the T-Unit 5.0 has the CD Soundtrack sale info on it, not sure if the Y-Unit has that for sure...I believe it does though.

I'm pretty sure 4.0 was the same on T-unit and Y-unit. I think 5.0 was mostly an update tweaking the way the game ran on the T-unit.

Yeah 4.0 is pretty much the same on both boards, 5.0 was just a t-unit bug fix revision.
I personally like the y-unit board better as it has less issues but like mentioned above it uses a different kick harness than the t-units.

The last revision of the software added a lot of gravity to characters so you can't juggle them forever. In some ways it became less fun with certain characters as a result but the game became more fair.

There were instances that after blocking kano's ball or raiden's dive a character like scorpion could do almost a full life bar of damage with huge juggle combos. There was also a way to juggle someone against the wall infinitely with the characters that had the quick jump punches (cage, raiden, kano).

My favorite rev was the one that still had the floatier gravity for juggles and also had reptile as the hidden character you can fight in the pit. I think it was rev 3.0 or 4.0. whatever was a full rev number lower than the highest one.
 
In version 1.0 and 2.0 you could with Sub Zero for example jump kick, slide punch punch slide round kick in the corner. Which was pretty devastating.

Even on rev 5 you can quick jump punch guys to death in the corner with Cage/Kano/Raiden (easiest with Cage). After standing and blocking Kano's ball attack with Cage you can jump punch, then jump kick then shadow kick still.

They added gravity after 2.0, and made attacks in the corner force you backwards(slightly stun you), in rev 3.0.
 
I have the turbo ninja set that I bought from Bulldawg (I'm pretty sure!) and its awesome! Its hard to go back to the normal version after that. I have a few random boardsets, one of them has the 0.9 beta romset, and I have a 4.0 version too.

I've noticed I have had some trouble doing Scorpion's fatal. Is it because I can't hold block? Block U U isn't working! wtf.
 
Probably just not quite standing in the right spot.

You can do his fatality in every version by holding block. Before you were allowed to use block in the fatality to get to reptile I would just keep tapping the punch button and hit up, up, up while punching. If you want to get fancy you can walk up to the opponent ant then throw them and hit up, up, up while recovering from the throw. Scorpion will do the fatality even though they are lying on the ground. The skeleton will stand back up.

Also, if you are using Sub-zero you can finish someone by throwing them for the last hit and quickly have sub zero do a freeze. The opponent will freeze while standing for the fatality. Then when you have sub-zero do the fatality the body will remain frozen after the head is torn off.

Or throw a round kick and as he is spinning around rapidly tap Up.

The throw is how I do it personally. I never hit block to do his fatality.

The subzero freeze is a fun one. There are a few others too:

Everyone I think knows the multi head uppercut with Cage. Or Liu Kang you can do the kick from the screen away then chuck some fireballs or just walk up and tap punch and still get credit.

Kano if timed right and in the right spot near the corner after a throw it looks as though he reaches into their ass to pull out their heart.
