I have a working MK4 sitting in my garage that I cant decide what to do with. I originally planned to keep it dedicated and just go about fixing the holes, cleaning it up etc. Now I find myself wanting to completely strip it down and make it a multi MK machine with custom artwork (my 2 year old daughter is scared of the bald man on the side and I'm no fan of it either) and swapping in a flat screen Wells Gardner D9800 (the original monitor works fine except for some horizontal feedback lines).

Would I be better off selling/trading it for similar cabinet that I wont feel so guilty about modifying? Should I just go ahead and strip this one down basically start all over since most people agree mk4 sucks anyway? Help me decide guys!

Some of the worst sideart ever. Nothing will be lost in getting rid of it and going with your custom artwork.

The sideart does suck but someone else would appreciate it. I would take it off your hands and let you have the conversion I have if I wasn't on the other side of the country.

I'm a bit of a purist so I'd say trade it to someone for another Midway cabinet that's maybe already been converted. I don't care for MK4 (stopped playing after MK3) or the side art, but I know others out there do for sure.

Yeah I'd have to agree Supergun there are so many MK conversions out there it wouldn't be hard to find one that is already painted black and has pretty much all of the original cabinet parts. It's not hard to build a new top for the control panel if the buttons were modified. Just a thought.

I can do Cab for cab, or I have empties, however you want to do it. I will be getting an MK1 probably next week that is original, how would you prefer to do it?

Too bad you're so far away, I have a really nice MK 2 cab that was painted over that I would trade you in a heartbeat...

The MK4 cab is still wanted by MK collectors, I would say it is worth more than a MK1 cab but less than a 2 or 3. Some don't like the MK4 cabs, but to a MK purist and collector, they are a piece of MK history and most MK collectors I know like it. It's subjective like all the other games out there of course.

I had such a hard time finding a MK4 cabinet in Florida when i was trying to complete my collection that I actually had one shipped in from Indiana! So if that gives you any idea that collectors want this cab, as there are many that have been converted out there.

Here's my collection before my MK1 was added:

i trashed one without thinking about it. put MK3 side art on the left and got MK2 sideart that is going on the right. MK1 and MK4 sideart is garbage and I like 2 and 3 and those are the real classic MKs anyway if you ask me. I mamed it up so it runs all the MKs, I don't really see the point of taking up so much floor space having 4 mk machines, but hey, whatever does it for you. one multi works for me.

Wow that's beautiful!! I would love to do the same but my wife would not understand. Also where can I find those character cards that you have on your two machines?

MK cabs are plentiful over here, at least for what I have seen... I personally like 2 and 3, but naturally if I have a dedicated MK1 and MK2, in the process of getting a MK3, I need to complete it and get a MK4.

Personally MK2 is my favorite MK game, but MK1 has its own special feeling just for being the first. MKII is my favorite looking cab also, then MK1, Mk3, and finally MK4. No offense to the MK4 fans. :)

My plan ultimately is to build something similiar to this: http://www.habosarcade.com/MortalKombatMulti JammaCab.htm

Even though I'm not the biggest fan of mk4 I plan to keep the it and thanks to klov member xarcade I recently acquired a umk3 board as well. Ultimately my daughter I just dont like the sideart on the mk4 and I'm now planning to use a WG D9800 monitor also. Klov member 8bitnintendo offered to do a straight trade for a mk1 for my mk4 cab that I'm seriously considering. I guess my next question is the jamma harness from a mk1 cab compatible with a mk3-4 board since the original mk1 cab didn't have a run button?

Get a different cabinet. There are plenty of such cabinets out there that are already stripped. I would keep it dedicated.

Jamma harness is compatible. You just need the extra kick harness, which isn't hard to come by. I love UMK3, but I hope you have a lot of friends who like it too. UMK3 has zero replay ability against the computer, unless you use Scorpion or Ermac and do the same moves over and over.
