Just got a Mortal Kombat 2 arcade,When i first went to buy it it worked fine but the sound was coming and going, When i got the arcade back home and turned it on all lights turn on but there was nothing in the monitor just black and in 5-10 minutes it came up white and grey on the screen,But no sound or picture at all, what could of happen?any help please, thank you

make sure all the chips are fully seated

if you got one of the dual main board units with 4mb chips make sure the memory board is fully seated.

pull the prom chips (noting notch on one end) one at a time and clean lightly sand them with some super fine sand paper.

double check your connections to the monitor including the remote board (if you got a complete cabinet and not just the board).

after all that read over this

When I got mine I had the same issues (give or take) as you. ALL of my problems were in the connections. Take all edge connectors off and clean them, put them back on making sure they are seated all the way on. I got mine as non working but when I did those thing to it...... SWEET.

How did you get the game home?
Did you lay it down, on it's side?
Did you check the connections?
Is there any sound?
Moving it around may have popped something loose.
I would make sure all the eproms are seated properly, and the jamma harness tightly fastened.
If not try another game in your cab.

yeah, I got a non-working MK T-unit board that would reset. I've found that when those surface mount chips with the little legs get clogged with gunk, you need to hit them with some rubbing alcohol and a soft toothbrush. in the case of that board, it had a dust bunny lodged in it somehow and the resets went away. my extra KI board had the same issue, I was afraid it popped solder on one of the legs but cleaning the CPU corrected the random reboot thing I guess.

to OP, your problem sounds power related. wish I had pictures for my guide, make learning how to handle that stuff a lot easier. lol

get your digital multimeter handy, if you don't have one, you're going to need one for this hobby.

Iam new to arcades and repair ,but i notice that the 2 little red light on the board dont turn on,is this the issue, iam going to try cleaning the connections to see what happens. I got it home with a utility trailer standing up,i checked the connections and theres no sound either,I dont understand it worked fine but then got it home and nothing. Thanks

well it may take you a lot of question asking (to be thorough) but guys here can walk you through it.

sounds like a power supply issue. either bad connections, or bad power supply (all of a sudden)

power supply. the white and grey screen... I don't know about that one.

if it's what I think it is, it's a fucked up flyback and it's turning the Screen all the way up. might wanna identify the monitor too while you're at it. take pictures of the big board you see at the bottom of it. it's more than likely either going to be a K7000 or Polo, unless it's not a dedicated cab you're talking about or the monitor was replaced.

reverse of what tron guy said, I have a lot of questions to ask you before we can really do anything lol.

do you have a 2nd cab to test just the boardset in?

take pictures please (of the inside of the cab) monitor connections and harness connections (not upclose shots but decent non cell phone pics).

that's a WG K7000 alright and a dedicated cab.

Have you pulled the chips and reseated them and cleaned up the edge connector (with an eraser)?

Do you have a 2nd cab to test the main board in?

Everything wiring wise looks in order. Might be the power supply, might be the monitor, might be a bad connection, might be the main board. (those are my guesses).

you'd need a multi-meter to test the power supply. If you have a 2nd cab to test the main board in or know someone who will let you test it on their machine that would rule the board out. connections you just need to pull them and reseat them (be careful when doing this around the monitor). the monitor would be the tough thing to test/fix, but if you take enough pictures of it and ask the right questions we can rule that out too :D

Hi,I put the main board on a midway off road arcade I have and the red light turned on so i guess the board works because on the mortal kombat 2 arcade it doesnt turn on.. I pulled the chips and reseated them and cleaned up the edge connectors with a toothbrush and a bit of alcohol and nothing. My last guess will be the power supply.Anybody know what kind I need or were to get one. Thanks

i got my 115-120watt from twistedquarter as they had the best price.

I will check that website out,I also notice when i turn the arcade on the red light on the power supply doesnt turn on,Thanks for the help

so you tried the MK board in an OFF Road cab? did you get picture? you should have. (as long as Off Road has the same jamma pin out voltage/video wise).
